A cattle egret should have yellow/orange legs if it is in breeding plumage. The yellow on the head breast are indicative of breeding plumage. Otherwise, the cattle egrets have short, dark legs, so even though this looks like a cattle egret, its legs do not seem to be the correct color as shown in my Sibley Guide........none of the other egrets seems to maktch up well either though.......Stephen, yes it is a captive bird. It is defiantly a North
American native. Others have identified it as a Cattle Egret,
which got its name for sitting on top of cows and eating the bugs
off their hide.

You're welcome Morris. It definitely looks like a cattle egret by the shape of the bill, but the legs do not seem to be the right color.....but with plumage variations, who knows?Thank you John, There were about 5 of them and they all looked like
this.
