Macro images

I have have my Tamron 90 mm Macro lens for a week now and I am still learning how to use it. I have a Nikon D7000 and I am shooting with spot focus in manual mode is this correct or is there other ways to get a good focus.

I attached some pics of a Praying Mantis, that I took, hand held....BTW what is the best way to stack Macro photos...I have Elements 9

I particularly like the shot of the mantis cleaning its foot while standing on your fingers.
