Howdy Folks:

I want to buy a laptop, to use for my S2 shots, and my wife's Canon S110 shots (great tiny camera, by the way)

Our desktop is OK for the web and email, but is too slow and has too little RAM for photo processing.

I checked out several laptops , and on most of them the screen does not seem adequate. The Toshiba S803 looked great, but it's $2,300.00. Ouch!

Does anybody have a laptop that they like? Small size is not really important, but a good screen, 2 gig processor and at least 512 RAM is important. Also need firewire and at least a 30 gig hard drive.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Hawk !

I just purchased this laptop and I am real happy with its power and speed. It also has a 16.1 " LCD that you can calibrate and adjust the individual red, blue, green colors. I also like the fact that it has ability to have 2 batteries for longer life. With rebates best buy had it for a final cost of $1650.00

Suggest you check out the Fujitsu. I have two of them, one mini and the other regular size. Bought them on their refurbished list, were simply new ones or returns. Both are ideal and meet your specs, each for just over $1,000.00. Here is their URL., http://www.worldisround.com/articles/14202/photo12.html

Apple has a Ibook for like 999$ that has all you would really need to download photos and do email. Today the mac is really compatibale with the PC too.

If you need something more than a Ibook go look at the powerbook G4

I loooooooooooooove my iBook - though if I were going to make it my primary machine, I'd probably go for one of the two new G4 powerbooks instead.

Even the iBooks are plenty fast for Photoshop as long as you load 'em up with RAM, and they are cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeap! :)

Hello:

I purchased my last notebook computer (now about 18 months old) from http://www.pro-star.com/ . This company sells a decent variety of notebook computers, which are also sold by a few other companies under other labels. The prices are very good, and their service is quite decent.

One caution: Beware of the models that use a desktop processor. This is one way that some companies now advertise fantastically fast processors in notebook computers, since the mobile versions are slower and more expensive. Mine has a PIII 1,000MHz desktop processor. It still has a three-hour battery life, but that's due to an enormous battery. I also love the 1400x1050, 15" screen. That's more resolution than desktop 17" flat panel monitors typically display.

Fuji Folks:

Thanks for all of the responses. Our local Costco has a Toshiba with a 2.4 gig processor, 60 Gig HD, 512 Megs of ram, firewire, and nice 15" screen for $1100.00, and I think that I am going to go for it.

Hi

I have got a Toshiba Satelilite with 16.1 TFT screen, 2.2 GHz Pentium 4 processor & 512 Mb ram memory. Infrared detachable keyboard and mouse make it a true pleasure to wotk with this computer.

I am used to IBM ThinkPad before this and I must say that this is a lot better.
