Canon D80!

I do find it very hard to believe that they will be able to charge
anything close to $1500.00 for a 4mp digital camera if that part is
accurate. With complete, high quality 5mp pro-sumer camera
available for $700-900.00 (Sony 717, Nikon 5700, Minolta 7Hi) I
would expect that to be impossible.
Why? MP is not everything. Check out the picture gallery of any that you mentioned. Not really wetting my mouth. D30 3mp picture quality is way higher than those 5mp consumer cameras. 1D is also 4mp without any doubting of picture quality. Some say that it has better picture quality than D30/D60. I would be very pleased to buy a 4mp Canon DSLR for $1500.

I was fed up with lame rumours of the next Canon $1299 Digital rebel. After exhausting reason attempting to explain why this would not happen I gave up and posted my own rumor in the same thread (which should have been clue enough) and the next day I pointed out my source.

Since then half the camera sites on the net have latched onto this rumor. It really goes to show the value of rumors:

ZERO.

Cheaper, better AF.

Who ever said that the 'D40' was intended as an upgrade for people who have already shelled out for a D60? The D60 is only a year old, why would anyone want a new camera already?

Maybe the 4MP chip is easier (and therefore cheaper) to produce, given that it'll have significantly larger feature sizes and, therefore, defect tolerance. It also saves on CF card space, and makes processing easier - especially for those who don't have this year's model of PC.

A big heavy Canon DSLR, a not as heavy Canon SLR, a couple of
off-white lens and some red-stripe lenses and one with a gold
stripe, some flashes and tripods and remotes and a closet full of
things that are banned in Britain. A minivan and a Fender
Stratocaster. A three bedroom ranch on an acre. Also, absolutely no
Canon 1200mm f/5.6. Yet.

All the evidence points to there being LOTS of pent-up demand for
an affordable D-SLR. A D40 for $1500 that has 4MP plus an AF
system similar to the Rebel Ti would sell like hotcakes (at least I know
I would get one...)

to those of you that think the new D60 will have full frame 8 MB chip and EOS-3 body....DREAM ON... it will NOT happen. First of all that "new" camera will kill sales of 1Ds which Canon doesn't want that, secon of all it will cost too much or simply it wouldn't be a replacement but a new camera-line. In addition Canon is not going to make anything using EOS-3 body becouse it's old and doesn't have all those sealings, in other words who would pay let's say $5k for a "pro" camera which is not as tought as it should be (1V, 1D, 1Ds).

As far as the D80 or whatever they call the new D60 my prediction is that it will be perhaps 8MB (but not FF), with a way better AF with 9 points instead of 45...

...oh, since the Kodak 14n is a joke (based on sample pictures) price of 1Ds won't probably drop as we expected...
