IMHO this unit is what the Shadow should have been. I did not need to re-tap the screw .... and guess what ... It works EVERYTIME I press the shutter button.

I have the Live view display turned off, so if it is dark I can see what I'm focusing on, and it works great.

IMHO, I would never buy the Shadow, as a matter of fact I'm going to see if I can get a replacement, for $80.00 you would expect it to work.

1) A couple of things, the JJC fits very tight I think the circuit board is a little thicker and makes better contact. Be careful putting it in.

2) The screw driver is WAY to small, almost useless.

3) The quality seems pretty good, it is not as finished looking as the Shadow, but it works every time. OH ya, the JJC has no passed sticker ;- ) .......... they just made a product that works, nice going to JJC and shame on you SHADOW !

I'm using Yongnuo 460 II flashes and DSLRKIT brand wireless transmitter and receivers. Works great ! BTW I was shooting at low and medium low power and was using 1/200th shutter speed, something that was really hit and miss with the Shadow !

I got to tell ya I'm very pleased to have something that works !

Hehe, after what I've read about Shadow (for horrible price) JJC MSA-10 CAN only be better :-)

NEX5 + MSA-10

Konica X-24 (30 years old)

and they went off without a hitch, all shots fired .... and no I did not have to hold the adapter down to make good contact, and no I did not test fire the wireless transmitter at the same time as pressing the shutter button like I had to do on the Shadow to make it work.

I would urge anyone that has a Shadow on order, if it does not work right out of the box - EVERY TIME ... return it ! and get this unit, it is FAR superior and $50.00 cheaper !

Hi wll, i just ordered. Hopefully arrive at beginning of august. Can't hardly wait!!

Yes, you will get a adapter that works well. Glad you did not buy the Shadow !

Seems so nice, but so weird that didn't see any review(s) on internet... glad that see some samples here! Cheers!!!

btw, I will receive it today!!! YEAH!

Shot this strange pod at 1/250 F14 with my new JJC wireless adapter hot shoe.

This thing works great. I shot this at 1/250 shutter speed - it worked, but it does not do it reliably. At 1/200 I have not had a curtain problem at any power setting so far, but to be truthful I have not tested it a whole lot, maybe 25 - 40 shots but they all worked.

I shot the pod on low power, and I think that makes a difference.

Anyway it is nice to know we all have a reliable 5n hot shoe adapter, thank you JJC !

Isn't it strange this adapter doesn't provide for Minolta/Sony flashes with the appropriate foot?

That's what I'd expect, Sony will have a safety margin built into the 1/160 "official" maximum sync speed and I'd be very surprised if 1/200 wasn't totally reliable as well. By 1/250 you're probably right on the edge - or beyond- reliable sync with a normal high-speed flash, despite many claims from some sources.

It possibly does, but I doubt it matters; the hit-and-miss you see at 1/250 is probably just a symptom of working too close to the edge of the safety margin and seeing the effect of random timing variations that don't matter at slower speeds, the very reason there's a safety margin in the official maximum speed.

is there a link to where one can buy this hot shoe adapter? i would like to continue to use my 2 metz 45 cl-4 with pocket wizards when i'm being kinda-sorta-somewhat serious

I've got my MSA-10 today, but it doesn't switch the NEX into flash mode, meaning I have to manually set M mode and set a suitable flash sync speed, and the monitor image becomes black when the existing light is insufficient or when I stop down the lens.

I think that's a complete showstopper, even more so for me, as most of the photography I'm doing with the NEX is using manual focus, which clearly becomes impossible that way.

Or have I missed something?

Cheers

WHICH NEX? My NEX5 works 100% okay with hot shoe - of course no TTL :-)
Flash, ringflash, wireless ... all 1a.

NEX5 doesn's see adapter, but it fires flash, hehe.

I've been using a NEX 3.

So you don't get the flash symbol on your display either? Bummer. Doesn't your screen blacken then in dim light, as soon as you go into M mode, choose an F-stop like f/8 and a sensible flash sync shutter speed like 1/160?

Hi wll =D,

need help. How can you get 1/250 with F14? do you use iso more than 400? M mode or A Mode? need advise though =D

Because usually when we attach sony small flash in low light condition, the speed change from around 1/3 second to 1/60 second (when the small flash attached) at ISO 100.

Btw i already recieved the JJC today (Yippeeee)

I shoot my NEX 5n at ISO 800 all the time as a base ISO and go from there. I don't use the JJC with a flash attached, I just use it as a hot shoe to wireless adapter connection. I personally don't like a heavy flash on my camera (I worry about the Sony adapter because it is not made for that kind of weight).

Yes, I have taken many, many images in testing with the JJC and have not had one failure. many shots were at 1/200 and they came out fine ! I use M mode most of the time and sometimes I use P mode and cut down the exposure a stop or so. I also almost always use my Yongnuo 460 II flash on low power with the diffuser. almost all the stuff I shoot are pretty small objects and don't need to use a powerful flash, I use it primarily for fill or maybe to have my subject stand out from there surroundings a bit.

All the best, and let us know how your JJC performs.

I´m using that setup, and no issues at all.

You can see my post and FB, and see this couple in action!

I´m doing pro jobs with this equipment, enough for me and the people who I´m serving.
