EOS M dpreview page is up

Canon hasn't heard that smartphones are taking over the world. Very disappointed and can only hope the next model will have a viewfinder and articulating screen.

So this thing is just called the EOS-M? No model name like the M1, or the Rebel Mini, or 5000D?

$799 with the 22mm, no 18-55mm bundle in US, and no flash included (at least from B&H and Adorama description page).

So one has to spend $799 + $299 for 18-55mm + $149 for 90EX.... = $1,247

That's NEX-7 territory! And $150 more than OM-D.

The price was not bad if it were a 18-55mm + flash bundle..... as such, it is priced a bit too high.

EOS-M isnt really specced anything like an OM-D. It is arguably around the same as a Sony Nex 5N (although 10fps, articulated screen, better video, built in flash.) That is US$699 with the 18-55 zoom (the F3 is US$599). So US$799 is just ok, I guess.

I know Canon has to start somewhere in this market, but it seems to me they set their sights way too low with this. Coming last to the market, they should have blown the competition away, but this has very little going for it compared with some very interesting competition (the ability to clumsiliy mount standard lenses being the single advantage). Looks like Canon have the same complacent attitude over cameras that Nokia had over phones. I wonder if it will hurt them in the long run.

You can use IR remotes but not cabled ones (it's in the preview).

flash is included in the box
Not in the US$799 offer up at B&H.
I wouldn't buy anything from b and h anyway

Yeah, sure... but your link is to a youtube video from 'digitalcameraworld' in the UK who are offering the EOS-M + 18-55 + flash (included). However, they are not being wildly generous as they are charging UKGBP769 which is US$1,230.

The flash isnt in the US kit at US$799.

why do you think they made it an also ran?

nothing new or exciting, ignored 16x9 format, released ho hum lenses for it. I could go on but my point is made, this is just another entry into the NEX catchup arena that misses the mark

ironic comment considering the UI is pretty much like a smartphone. maybe they did hear about that?

Its an initial entry similar to the Nikon 1 system, hard to match the m4/3 system right off the bat.

Even more convincing:

I think it depends on region, I read that in some countries flash is included in the Kits.
So whats correct and where?
I'm confused.

Whats even more strange is the pricing strategy, at the time you can get it in Sept or Oct, the 650D will be likely below 700Eur (Body only) everywhere...
So where is the advantage of the EOS-M then, besides size?
