I like this style of processing. Warmed, pushed shadows, reduced luminosity in the blues, right? Bit of clarity? Dunno, tad of saturation?

Really amazing shot, but I think maybe you could of framed tighter? Nah! D800, crop it baby!

Edit: now that I study this more, I think you did some really clever curves too. Looks great.

hey people

Thank you for taking the time to have a look and leave a comment and am glad most of you enjoyed it

For those interested PP involved a few things.
For the past month i've been giving lightroom a try again.
This time version 4 and am liking the results better

In lightroom i do a few basic things
In this case Set WB to daylight and warm that up a bit
I have clarity at 24 saturation 12 vibrancy 12
I also check lens profile and with the d800 camera neutral for the profile

To be honest these are my default setting that i apply to my RAW files after importing with WB getting tweaked as needed. I don't do a great deal in lightroom

From there i adjust exposure highlights shadows and color if needed for individual shots.

Then into Photoshop

The first thing i did here is adjust shadow/highlights and applied a mask to the layer and at a 50% opacity masked out her clothes background and sky.

Then to get the pop i use a Soft Light Layer at about 50% and then again use a mask to mask out certain things in this case her face and hair. This step for my workflow is vital, i use it on Portraits and landscapes.

Next i give the image some contrast

Using Unsharp mask i have the setting at 15,250,0 this really makes the image stand out...You need to watch that's it's not too strong an effect, if so i reduce opacity or add a levels layer on top and move the middle slider to the left somewhere between 1.00 and 1.20 works great.

I also used Nik Viveza to darken the sky a bit using the control points it offers. Used these a lot in capture NX2.

That's pretty much the main things

Hope that helps and thanks again

I like it.....

The processed shot looks like the flash was used to illuminate the woman. I think this a great example of DR at work.

Better than anything from Canon

OK, I'll bite...

Quality control? Availability?

;)
I would agree with those two

My first D800 had the focus issues and couldn't be repaired at first go, Had to wait about a month for a replacement but they let me keep the first D800 and got to know it well.

Second one came a couple of days ago and well same issue although not as bad.

But i ain't replacing this one...There are too many good things about it. I might send it in in a few months.
