Before I got the strobes and lightmeter, I spent ages experimenting with continious light and reflectors... Below are those experiments, please critique, and hit me hard!

I like the first one. Drama I'm looking for. It's one of the few type of facial portrait I'm striving after in mind not yet in practice :-((. I'm just soaking my brain with images.....

I'd taken the first one.(And I may try it myself) No need to point out why it's stunning, that's obvious. The second one by itself is good also, but it's tough to compete with the first one. I hope this puts the one light issue to rest. I really feel the level of work has risen in this forum.

Kirill,

Sonya is great! Thanks for sharing with us! It's amazing what one light and creativity can accomplish.
Sonya is Awesome. You get the Can't Get That At Sears award today!
Beautiful.
Great name, Zack! I hope you're able to issue it more and more frequently here.

I too love the top one. I've said it before, I know, but very often a huge factor in what makes an arresting image is what ISN'T in it. Very well done.

Cheers,

Martin

One light bounced off reflector from behind black background... Actually it's pretty simple, anyone can do it.
BTW you right about drama - she is a star in a high school theatre...

Thank you Zack. I want this award printed and framed. I'm getting tired of struggling with my disease. My wife (she's physician) calls it "malignant perfectionism"... I think I have some feel for ambient light, now I have to work with strobes, which is whole new ballgame...

Sasha is OK, but as noted elsewhere... it can't compete with the
first portrait.

Job well done.
