To my knowledge, Pentax haven't introduced a new APS-C lens for a long time. Could that be an indicator that they're gearing up for full frame? Or, is it just stagnation on their part? I'm thinking the latter.

I think their upper management, marketing and R&D department have been huffing paint or sniffing glue, or something, personally. If you do that while playing the CD "Tintinabulation" on continuous play, you can COMPLETELY lose track of time.

Yeah, that's the ticket. The more I think of it, the more I'm sure. I lost a good part of 1977 that way, and I didn't even have the 60-minute CD then, only the 30-minute LP version. :P

I believe the Pentax 645 system is due for an update. When this occurs, it's IQ will blow any FF system out of the water.

Under Hoya ownership lens development basically was stopped and their top optical engineers lens designers were retired. Under Ricoh ownership these engineers were re-hired and from the lens roadmap they are gearing up for a steady release of new lenses for a few more years.

Now are those lenses going to be FF capable is any one guess. They might even surprise us with a few lenses that are not on the lens roadmap. The DA 40 XS released with the K-01 was not on the lens roadmap.

Yeah, the D800 is bringing the pressure. They need a 645D II promptly. Eighty MP or so.

keepers: K10D, Sig 17-70, DA 55-300, FA 50/1.4 "Billy Bass"

discards: DA 50-200 "zipper", F 100-300, Sigma 135-400 "piglet", M 400/5.6 "the Great Truncheon"

Dave, do you actually have some insider knowledge to this effect?

Thanks,

Joe

There are several high-end Pentax APS lenses on the roadmap for next year; among them a 560mm, a replacement for the 16-50 and a Limited zoom...

No insider information. There was a statement couple of months ago from Ricoh concerning re-hiring engineers that Hoya had let go. Also the lens roadmap was released at CP+ back in January. I believe this is to atleast give an impression that Ricoh is serious in growing Pentax and competing and gaining market share from Canon.

I think you're forgetting about the DA 50mm f1.8. It was just released.

But 560mm and 50/1.8 are FF lenses!

On what grounds is a da-l 50 1.8 a ff lens ??

looks to me given it size probable image and nomenclature that is a poor mans portrait lens for APS-c.

it s50mm because that the cheapest focal length to produce and close enough for government work.

If you listen to the fairies and their FF mantra then of more interest is the fact the FA50 is not retiring any time soon.

Their cn be only one reason to keep the old dog on and thats if a FF camera is in the pipe line but not imminent.

It think it is kept in the line-up because it sells and is rather useful as a fast short APS telephoto....
