My first Canon product is the S820 printer. I had very high expactations because most people think it is a great printer. I printed 3 (THREE) postcard pictures 4*6. And guess what happens ? The powerlamp flashes 7 times orange and after a lot off research I found out that THE PRINTHEAD MUST BE REPLACED !! I like my Sony 717 and I am very glad I did not choose for other Canon products

Hiighly unususal but that is the deal with electronics. You can't predict when they will fail. I always seem to manage to buy a DOA product no matter what brand. You can have that printer replaced or call Canon and demand they ship a new head NOW.

Sorry Kris but I am from the Netherlands. What do you mean by DOA product ? Gr.Peter

Dead On Arrival. After only 3 prints it qualifies as DOA.

Peter,

Kris is trying to help you and you are being mean. Come on, now...

Where did you buy your printer? If you bought it in the The Netherlands, you should have a warranty, shouldn't you? And warranties are there to help you. Call the number and have them send you a new head.

Mike.

This post is really annoying. I understand the frustration of bringing home a product and having it be defective. I bought a new computer and after having it two days the processor burned out on it. I could have had a temper tantrum, but I just took it back and got it replaced. Inconvenient but hardly a big deal.

I sure that you told all the people in the Sony forum that complained about out of the box issues with their 717's (And there are alot of those!!!) that they should never buy another Sony product again!

Sorry Mike and Kris dont understand me wrong. Its really the first time I heard the expression DOA and I was very glad with the reaction of Kris. It made me chear up a bit. You know when I am in need of a printer for my work and I have to wait 3 weeks for delevery (so 3 weeks of work to print) I was glad I could start to work. And when after a few minutes the printer strikes you brrrrrrrrrrrr.

I agree that with technology this can happen of course but I am glad that on other fields (cars, planes etc) the technology is hopefully more reliable.

No hard feelings to anybody and after replacement of my printer next week I am still convinced I bought a very goodbest printer with the help of the advices and experiences of all forum contributants. Gr .Peter

It's always a bummer to open something and have it be defective. Even worse if you had to order it and can't get an immediate replacement.

There's lots of room for misunderstandings when communicating in writing, I always forget that the other guy can't see me smiling or hear my tone of voice to know that I'm being sarcastic and joking. Even worse when different cultures get thrown in.

I hope you can get your printer fixed or replaced faster than you got the original.

:-) Cathy

--I like my Canon 9000 printer it is awesome and I have never had any issues with it. I also love my 717. You got yourself a lemon which can happen with any brand or product.
