Auto ISO with Manual Exposure

There's a little scale in your display. When EC is active, it's the 'exposure compensation indicator' described on page 30 of your X100 manual. When Manual Exposure is being used, and the EC dial is inactivated, it's the 'exposure indicator' described on page 27. It's driven by the meter. It's what allows you to meter the scene.

The scale can't serve both purposes at the same time. It has to be one or the other.
Thanks for the explanation. That would have to be fixed if they enabled EC with manual shutter speed and aperture, with auto ISO. In any case, we've likely already seen the last X100 FW update.

How so Jeff? I still get Apple system specific updates for my 3yr old iMac on a regular basis ... and I'm still running older Snow Leopard OSX - not newer Lion. Does 'old' really equate to defunct? The X100 has yet to be superceded in the Fuji range ...

Fuji may decide to support this model for some time ... or cut it tomorrow - who knows - but there is no limit to the tweaks it might devise in the meantime. The X100 isn't a 'six-month wonder' like some camera variants - I'd imagine Fuji anticipates Leica style model longevity, with support to match.

I hope you are right. The X100 is fine as it is, but there is room for improvement.

Thanks for all the feedback - didn't realise that I'd set off such passionate debate with such a dull question!

I take the point that it's not such a big deal to switch auto ISO off, or switch to Aperture- or Shutter-priority, but I still think that it would be nice to have a custom setting to switch auto-ISO off when in full manual mode. Logically, it makes no sense to have the camera 'improving' my deliberately set values. Maybe something for the next firmware upgrade?
