I think it was Gary,

In any case I could not re-find the reference. Certainly something needs to be done to help see the lcd in bright light. have tried a few "tricks' bt I hate putting thinks permanently on sch a clean bodies camera. Therefore beyond fixing Accmaxx lcd protectors that look professional like they belong there I have done nothing else.

Wearing a baseball cap is something I have never done but the brim might turn into a good light shade for the lcd without attaching anything to camera. I am prepared to change my sartorial style in the pursuit of science.

Maybe if flaps could be hung either side of the brim? (a big brim ...) Well maybe not ...

:)

Getting back to the cloth guys used to stick their head under when using a glass plate camera - now there is an idea - a hat with a flip-forward cloth to cover the camera body ....

I did.

And I wear one whenever I need to use an EVF-camera, because light seeps in from between the EVF and my glasses, making the camera unusable. The baseball cap fixes that.

The camera should wear the cap, with the bill turned around backwards in the modern 'nit-wit' fashion.

Damn! I thought it was going to be Tony Pulis.
No! It was me that said I wasn't a fan of baseball caps. Just not my thing. Hopefully with the EVF it won't be a problem even on the sunniest of days.

In case anyone is interested in seeing a little of my work, I updated my signature. I really need to sort out my flickr account though, it's a bit of a hodge-podge!

If you don't wear glasses, then you can shut out all light by closing up the EVF with your eye. It'll work, I've tried. If you do wear glasses, then prepare to use a baseball cap, because if the day is bright, it'll be difficult to use the camera. If the sun shines right into the viewfinder (which happens if the sun is to your right or behind you, when shooting with your right eye), you're done for. You won't see anything.

Learn to shoot blind. Tom even used to recommend it.
If my eyesight should get worse than it's always been in the coming years, I may actually have to :P

That fashion sems to have died around these parts as the now thirty-somethings realise that they look pretty stupid with their hats on backwards.

Even Lleyton Hewitt the tennis player seems to have gown up as well.

Still do, it can be useful in some situations. With the oh-so-wide lenses being preferred and auto focus doing it's job then you can often get close enough.

But with manual focus you could always, zone focus off the lens, like the old smart guys did and then shoot over the top of the camera with your wide angle. But it is nicer with some form of proper framing and getting the focus right manually with your lens gets progressively harder the further you move away from a stopped down wide angle.

Must go and look through my box of funny hats to see if I have accumulated a baseball hat in there, my regular clown hat is no good ... no rush, it is wet and miserable and overcast. More beanie than sun-shade.
