I'm not big on flower shots but most of those are among the best I've seen posted here, maybe THE best.

Nice,

I'm checking the camera price online when I chanced upon your message.
Do you like using it?
Are you happy with the IQ?
Any 20X zoom pics to share?
RAW?

Do you have any decentering problems?
Do you think it's more resistant to sensor dust than the other previous models?

These examples are marvelous. The 4th one is my favorite. The lighting and subsequent shadows and depth makes one feel they should crawl right into the flower.

For certain, you are getting the hang of the F770 much more so than your previoius samples that you were unhappy with.

Hi there ..okay let me give these questions a try.

Do I like using it?..Well ..better now than at first. I have never used a point and shoot before ..DSLR or bridges only. Its pretty straight forward re menus and dials ..but how you shoot the cam does take some time getting used to re settings. The thing simply does not display what you have shot or are shooting re what the actual exposure is.

Are you happy with the IQ? Humm sometimes sometimes not . Macros are not bad ..wide angle not so great. ISO should be held under 400 IMHO and if possible shoot as much as possible at base ISO of 100. Color is good to great

Any 20X zoom pics to share? Not just now ..I will try and get you some ..but suffice it to say the zoom up to 20 is good to pretty darn good re IQ.

RAW? I have not shot RAW yet but according to some the camera shines in this department as more can be drawn from the files . If this is so the camera could quite possibly really rock..well at least at base ISO.

Do you have any decentering problems? I haven;ty noticed any but then I have not actually checked closely ..but I doubt there is a prob.

Only time will tell on this. No dust so far.

I would rate the cam so far at about 7.5 to 8 out of 10
-1 for some IQ loss at wide angle
-1/2 for an inability to capture fine fur detail- ever
-1 for faulty display readings
-1/2 for difficulty of learning proper settings to achieve maximum results
The great color could gain back 1/2 a point

Thanks for the answers.

I wonder how it performs in low light, especially since ff claims it reduces noise by 30%.

I also wonder if there's some freaky highlights like those experienced on the f500.

The price of these things are dropping compared to the previous models.

It would be great to have a compact teleOoms which addresses the problems of the f500.

Hi again ..

As to freaky highlights ..humm haven't noticed them but I am constantly on the watch for blown light areas with this cam as anyone should be with a small sensored cam ..

I have noticed that shooting into the sun can produce some flaring ..sometimes its extreme and at others ..there is only a small central light blurry zone ..but hey you learn it does this and avoid certain angles or heck shoot knowing the effect and using it !

As to low light shooting ..well as I have said I like shooting it at base ISO =100..as much as possible ..BUT I be grudgingly admit ..that you can get decent if not awesome or pixel level great shots up through the ISO range. The pro light mode actually has a use on this cam and I have used it a fair amount just to "get the shot" . Do not expect high IQ in this mode ..it is a good option -not a great one.

One other thing ..The max zoom using the enhancing thingy is like 60X ..I use that from time to time and it produces some weird results which I perversely ..like ..It also sometimes actually can sortah get the shot in a not so detailed but not so terribly bad kind ah way . You have to be prepared to be steady as you can loose your subject fast on the view finder in this mode!! I did my moon shots with 60X..here are a couple -( tripod ..stabilization OFF)

So the cam is cheap now ..just go out buy one from a vendor that allows returns ..or not ..cuzz hey you can sell it again without to much loss if need be.
all the best

  • ps..the cam is sturdy ..dropped mine..big opps ..as I am want to do..and it bounced like a rock ..no damage ..

here are a couple of shots pushing the cam to its farthest reach @ 60X zoomed

You can see the weird atmospheric stuff going on in the guy shot ..that gives it a painted look- fun stuff if the image had some actual interest which this does not.

The girls on the beach shot shows that sometimes subjects not requiring great detail can be shot at this extreme. Here the image is not so great and hit the bin, but you can see the potential at this extreme end for some different kinds of compo and shots ..
Notice the color . It is SOOC from what I recall..

Thanks for the advice.
Greatly appreciate it.
These cams are great for shooting human portraits at max optical zoom.
Just need to really dial down the exposure comp dial.
I love shooting flowers at the tele end too... Nice bokehs..
