Rick Steevs says of travel cameras, "stow it!" when you are not using it, "nothing makes you look more like a tourist than a camera bouncing on your belly."
I like pocketability for reasons of discretion and convenience. The Lowepro Munich 30 works great on my G12 but is way too small for the G1x. The Rezo 60 is too bulky to be put in and taken out of a pocket easily.
I don't find the G1x at all slow, and I find it focuses close enough for my purposes. My big problem has been achieving pocketability. I have no other concerns about it.
I have found two answers, after a great deal of looking. One is the Optec neoprene case, the Compact size. But I find this a bit awkward to put on and off.
The second solution, which I just found, is the Case Logic MSEC4, a small hard-sided case into which the G1x fits easily and is easy to take out when needed. My wrist strap on the G1x fits in too but that is all the room there is. Mine was $25 at the local Best Buy. It has some padding but the case itself will absorb some hard knocks. It fits easily into my slacks (not jeans) pockets and also into the pockets of my ScotteVest windbreaker. The zipper works far more smoothly than the zipper on the Lowepro Rezo 60. The case has a small strap for hand grip, and a shoulder strap but no provision for using it as a waist pouch. There is little extra space: I keep my extra battery and my Ricoh GV2 optical finder in my shirt pocket.
