I'm new out to Oz and really looking for recommended, used Nikon lens retailers. Anyone got any they've used? Not ebay please!

Cheers

You could try European Camera Specialists.

http://www.cameras.net.au/

They are on Victoria Road Drummoyne (Sydney).

I have purchased from them before (only new stuff though) and they just fine.

I've got a 17 - 55 F2.8 DX in mint condition if you are interested - I don't use it anymore since I moved to FX.

Welcome to Oz! I hope you enjoy it. Are you staying in Sydney?

As Peter Jonas has said, Camera Specialists are good, but they are in Sydney.

Also, Foto Riesel has a few in their store as well. They are on Kent St Sydney.

Both B&H and Adorama ship to Australia (B&H is a shade better organised). If you can't get what you want locally both are very reliable, and nearly always cheaper, including shipping, even if you can get things locally. There is no GST on internet purchases under $1000.

If you are in Melbourne, there's Camera Exchange - they do a lot of secondhand trade.

Actually, I have bought many lenses (new and used) on ebay, and I yet to have a negative experience. There are some very reliable photographic shops based in Germany, Japan, the UK and Hong Kong, who offer top products at great prices with excellent professional service to boot.

And yes, under $1,000 value there is no GST or duty. Shipping stuff to Australia is quite hassle free. In this respect (as in many others as well), OZ is one of the top places on Earth.

I do not want to talk you into buying on ebay, I am just saying that I have done a lot of that, and it has worked well for me so far. Maybe I have just been lucky, who knows. But a lot of stuff I simply would not have been able to find, if I had restricted myself to items available within Australia, which IS a small market.

OK, I have to admit the most expensive lens I bought that way was for $1,400. For the super teles and other high value exotic items one would have to have a very careful approach, but ebay might still be ok even then.

Good luck.

You can find some here:

http://lapfoto.com.au/secondhand.cfm?Cat=18
They are in Artarmon.

I've used gumtree.com.au and find it better than ebay as you can usually inspect before you buy.

Whilton camera also has some in store - they are in 251 Elizabeth street and service nikon cameras if you ever need to get service done ourside of Nikon australia.

Lance, just noticed that I have a photo similar to your signature phot (half of it actually) - same vantage point I presume!
