I did a search here for this question and didn't see it. Sorry if this has been battered around a lot...

I am using a 340MB Microdrive and a USB 2.0 (SIIG) reader and only getting about 2.1MB/s on my transfers. This is much faster than the 0.25 MB/s transfer from the in-camera USB 1.1, but am curious if this is an average time for the 2.0.

Thanks for your time.

I don't know if this will help because its kind of an apples to oranges comparison, but using the following:
  • SimpleTech 256 Meg CF card
  • USB 2.0 card in the PC
  • iApp CR e500 Card reader (attached to the USB 2.0 card in the PC)
I get 71 MB transferred in approximately 26.5 seconds from the CF card onto my PC hard drive. That's roughly 2.7 MB per second.

The data bottle neck is at the controller inside each of the CF card not the reader. A faster controller (newer CF card) will transfer data faster and vice versa.

I'm using a Zio cf usb 1 card reader and have 1/512 mb Ridata, 1/256 mb Delkin and 1/256mb Sandisk ultra. Both the Ridata 20x and Delkin transfer at 1 mb/sec and the Sandisk Ultra at .9 mb/sec. I would be tickled to get 2.1 mb/sec transfers. I will be switching to usb 2 in the near future.

I'm wondering if the Lexar 24x cards will transfer faster. I plan on buying one in a month or so, but mostly for the write speed.

I have a 512Mb CF Transcend 25x card and a USB2.0 Datafab reader. It reads the full card in 75 seconds(!) That makes 6.7MB/s true speed...
Writing takes slightly longer time.

Thank you guys/gals for the replies. I figured the true bootleneck was the card speed itself, but wanted to know if I was in the ballpark. Seems that I am.
