Photos from yesterday's CTV Upfront (season announcement) at the Sony Centre.

L-R Shemar Moore, Hayden Panettiere, Kunnal Nayyar from BIG BANG THEORY, lead character of the hit series SMASH Megan Hilty, and veteran actor Chi McBride.

All shot with the Olympus E5 w/ 50-200mm SWD and 12-60mm SWD lenses plus FL-50R flash with CT gel, flash set to minus 1/2 stop to match and fill existing light (overhead LED's)

Cheers,

I would have to agree. That shot of McBride is a pretty iconic pose of his. Pretty much says it all.

'LED' lighting Doug? Is that something new that you've had to deal with lately? Hard to manage?
The shot of McBride is awesome!

My second photobook is now available.

D620L -> D540 -> C750UZ -> E-500 -> E-510 -> E-3 -> E-5 + E-30 + E-P2 + E-M5

Perfectly done. Like the way you use the FL50R.

You've got it dialed in Doug.

Thanks.

LED's are the new reality. They are weak, lame-@ss, lacklustre, have neither outstanding specularity or diffusion characteristics ... they suck in every way, but run cool and devour less power. Do television productions, event lighting, concerts, any big power hungry application, and you run into them.

I haven't spoken to a single pro photographer who likes them for any reason other than the fact that they run cool.

Thank-you, it's my new approach to dealing with LED's. The hard-edged flash output, even 2/3 of a stop down, adds some snap to the mushy, indistinct, pallid, mediocre, grossly underwhelming output from the LED's ;)

Thank-you for the nice comment.

This was a warm-up for the big MMVA's shoot (MuchMusic Video Awards) on Father's Day ... for some reason they always hold it Father's Day (?)

Katy Perry, Justin Beiber, Carly Rae Jessop, LMFAO and whole bunch of stars expected at that.

Cheers,

Douglas Brown

Great shots Doug!

It was a nice relaxed little shoot. No TIFF craziness, just about a dozen of us, and you can see that the talent are much more relaxed without a wall of strobes and 50 people screaming for their attention.

We even got to talk and interact with them a bit. Usually you're not allowed to push too much posing at a red carpet (it's actively discouraged) but here you could throw out a suggestion and they'd try it.

I even asked Megan Hilty about her singing on SMASH and whether they over-dubbed someone else or not (this is the sort of thing that's impossible at TIFF) But she was okay with it, talked about her Broadway training and doing all the singing on the show. I told her she had a beautiful voice. She seems like a lovely person.
