I got up early as the forecast indicated blue skies - a nice change for London of recent weeks.

My car indicated the temperature to be -5 C, very cold for London even in Winter. It think it was worth it just for these two shots the light on the trees was something special - I did by best to capture it.

Comments welcome.

Nice pictures Ken! I live in Portsmouth, and I can assure it was just as cold down here this morning!

Question. I own a G2 as well, and I am curious to find out your thoughts about JPEG vs. RAW/TIF, and file compression. It appears you shot your picture in JPEG/Fine (I'll assume it was 2272x1704). Why not use RAW or Superfine? Do you find you don't need to for you to get the same quality? The benefit being you get more pictures on your CF card and ultimately, your computer? I just wonder if you have to use the RAW or Superfine to get a good picture - resolution wise? It appears you don't! Mike

Nice shots of the park in such good light.

I travelled up to Derwent Water on the 5th Jan at 6.30am and bagged some pleasant shots of the pinky/yellow morning light slowly popping up on to the mountains.
You don't need to be anywhere other than England when the light is right.

Well Done

Cheers

Greg

Thanks Mike.

I now shoot all pics in RAW, then use Breezebroser, Elements 2.0 and then save in jpeg to post on the web. I like to have option to post process not that I always use it beyond levels and sharpening.

Thanks Greg.

Agreed re England when the lights right - shame that seems so rare. Have you posted your Derwent Water pics.

Great early morning pics. I 've always enjoyed pics taken in the early hours of morning where the light is warmest.Unfortunately I am not an early riser and have no chance at all to take such pics.Perhaps after seeing your pics,I will be encouraged do so in future??

I am more of a night bird and hence the night shots as in my gallery. Feel free to browse and comment:

Hi Ken,

Not yet...but I'll try and do it in the next couple of days.

What with us early riser's having to get up at that time anyway just to squeeze 25 hours in - time is always running away from me :-)

I will sort it out soon though

Cheers

Thanks Ken for answering my question. I have never heard of Breezebrowser; will have to give it a look. Interseting to hear you use Elements. Seems like everyone uses PS7 these days. I was looking into getting Elements to save money, as it is $500 cheaper that PS7, but for now I think I will try the PS5 LE that came with my camera. I am new at photography, as I am sure you can guess (just a hobby). Any pros/cons comments about using Elements vs. PhotoShop 5/6/7? Again, nice pictures. Mike

Very good Vincent, particularly liked the night shot of the twin towers.

Very nice pictures! The warm tones of sunlight with the frost on the ground make for a good shot.

Mike,

I now use PS, but got started in Elements. It has virtually everything you need for good photographs except curve adjustments. Check on whether there's an upgrade path between the two programs in the UK. After Adobe's upgrade deal here, my several months of using Elements cost me a net of US$10. For that, I got many good photographs, a lot of learning, and several months' use of my money.

And if youi decide you don't ever need to upgrade, Elements is a really sweet deal. (Incidentally, I still use Elements for some applications, like panoramas.)
