1. This is one release that Nikon failed miserably in getting off to a successful launch, IMO. This, plus the wait for the camera and all the purported rumors of its design / menu functions / buttons and picture quality features not being up to standards for a professional caliber camera body, make it a camera I am not going to waste my money or anymore time on trying to get. My current Nikon Bodies (listed in my profile) will have to do, until I see a future new model FX DSLR Nikon Body I consider worth my purchasing. And, of course, I'll be looking at the smaller D600 when / if such a camera is released. :(

2. Have any others of you similarly canceled your pre-orders of the Nikon D800/D800E, or gotten rid of the ones you did received?

Well I've just seen your kit list. no one needs that many cameras and lenses unless you're running a rentals business! I'm sure the D800 would have got lost in there....

Nope. It is a very good camera indeed. If you're not documenting a war zone and aren't a sloppy button masher then there's no reason on earth to avoid this camera.

I just cancelled my order for a new Ferrari because the waiting list was too long, and ferrari only came 3rd in Monaco at the weekend. I mean when paying that much for a car I don't expect to have to wait!!!! I might buy a ford focus instead. I hear there is no wait for one of these.

Ps
Like you, I just made that all up

Huh?!?! What rumors are there about any of this? Picture quality features?!? Everything I have seen says there is no camera that matches the picture quality. THe only problem is left side focus for some, other then that, the reviews are rave. Are you trolling just for fun?

Now I know who's diner I received from the take-away.
I knew it was something about the brand that made me decide it was not good.

Now I heard the other take-away restaurant only has 22 meals available and suffers from nasty flies in their kitchen. However that's only a rumor though.

I know this is a gear forum. But I would never judge a man by the equipment he does have, or he doesn't have. That would be superficial.

But, his signature. My goodness, If he thinks that Christians go to heaven in order to "retire," he misses the point of the Incarnation. If he thinks that's what his "pre-order" of eternal bliss is about, he should cancel it and reread the scriptures! ;)

All photos shot in downtown Manhattan unless otherwise noted.
Thanks in advance for the kindness of your comments or critiques.

All righty Mr. Crankypants.

I would be a little worried if Nikon had loads of d800's sitting on their shelves, it had a terrible write up and the SH marked was flooded with them.

This camera, I believe, has had interest than any other Nikon DSLR. I think everyone is surprised as to just how good this camera is.

Sadly there is a massive waiting list but it's just one of those things.

Troll or hissy fit? Hmmmm

OP, was your point that you are a superior intellect or human being and the rest of us are potted plants? Or are you just craving some attention.?

The D800e is a very good professional grade camera. I have had one for just three days but I am liking the results very much. What else have you cancelled recently? Your subscription to Mad Magazine?

It doesn't cost anything to keep one on order at amazon, and I have 30 days to return it if I have a problem. I've never assumed that Nikon or amazon owe me anything. My life will go on with or without the d800.

and he's been a valuable member of this community for a long time.

Unlike you.

Nikon has achieved the impossible. It's both incredibly successful and botched all in one bag. The success is undeniable. So is the botching (Q/C issues which should never have been there in the first place).
its design / menu functions / buttons and picture quality features not being up to standards for a professional caliber camera body,
I don't see it that way. IQ is superb, design is excellent. There are some features that could use some improvements such as the settings bank, but IMO they don't justify at all such a harsh assessment of the D800.
And, of course, I'll be looking at the smaller D600 when / if such a camera is released.
Wise call, considering the rumored price.

No, no way. Plus, at the pace it's being delivered, the D800s will be out by the time my order ships. Free upgrade ;)
