Got a 32 GB sd card for my forth coming D800

I would get two 64Gb if you do any event photography.

With a 32Gb card, you will be able to fit about 350 Raw images.

Hi---

My D800 says that it can take 400 14 bit nefs with a 32GB card. Haven't pushed it that far in practice though...

Take Care---

Funny you should ask. I recently returned from a holiday trip to Ireland and Scotland with my D800. Shot RAW in 14-bit lossless compressed.

My first 32 GB CF card lasted for 672 photos before I swapped it out. I forget how many estimated photos were remaining. Less than 40 for sure.

Average file size of the photos is around 42-43 MB. Range of file size was about 38 MB to 50 MB. But by far, the most common file size is around 43 MB.
How many RAW 14 and 12 bit (each) pics will this hold?

The camera shows that I should get about 400 shots per 32Gb card. I shoot 14bit RAW un-compressed and after looking at many of D800 files, each is averaged at about 72Mb, which should mean that if I filled it up, I should get about 440.

Can I ask why you use the un-compressed setting instead of the lossless compressed one?

It is more of a personal choice as there is no technical advantage. I have been shooting lossless compressed on all my bodies for years.

I shot uncompressed 14 bit on my D700 but now shoot 14 bit lossless on the D800e also. My 32 GB card says just under 400 total when formated in camera but I expect it will hold more as the space begins to get used.

Bought two Transcend cards from B&H at a great price. Hope they hold up. To date I've only used SanDisk with no issues in CF, one issue in SD. on a compact camera, which was replaced free by SanDisk warrenty.

I use the Lexar Pro 1000X 128GB---get 1.6K RAW love it!

Thanks all. I have an 2(ea) 8 GB compact flash cards and I never use video so I think the combo will be enough for me. I've never taken more than 300 shots on any shoot.
