...would you buy the C-5050 Zoom again, or opt for another of the 5MP camera?

I've spent the better part of a month now looking at all of the 5MP's, and it seems that-at least in terms of 'bang for the buck', that the 5050 is really the best value out there. That's not to say that it's lacking quality in terms of image, flexibility, durability...it's right up there with all of the other 5mp's.

While I believe that the 717 gives you the best image w/o a lot of post processing, it seems like I could get the same image quality out of the 5050 with a minimum of Photoshopping.

Anyway, given all of the great reviews of this camera, I'm wondering why it just doesn't seem to get the 'respect' that the other seem to enjoy. Is it the best kept secret out there, or are all of the reviews full of it-for whatever reason.

I'm looking for a camera that will give me large, quality, fine-art prints (interpolated up to 16 X 20.

Michael

The quality of the images of these cameras are sooo close that it may come to features. The 5050 does a real nice job from what I have seen. Personally, I think the 5050 is OLY's best offerring in a long time, and gives incredible bang for the buck. It does hold its own against more expensive cameras.

I own the 707 and love it, but I'm stuck with memory sticks and no RAW mode, but I do have that CZ lens and 5X zoom. I can shoot IR handheld and compose/focus in total darkness. I like the 707 form factor, I like all the buttons and controls, I seldom go into the menus.

But the proof is in the pudding. The 7x7 will give outstanding results out of the box. The 5050 is not as easy to use. Some learning is required, as is noticed by the mediocre shots posted when the camera was released, and the high quality images that are being posted now.

I will answer your question from a slightly different perspective. If I had to do it again it would probably be the sony, but the decision would be a much more difficult one. For me it was the sony colors, although many don't care for sony color, I love it.

Regards

I would buy the C5050 again in a hearbeat........As iceninevt said, it does take some education, but that only makes you a better photographer.

OK, Pito, which camera should he get to do 16x20's? Does he need a 30MP camera?

Hello Pito,

Actually, I'e seen some absolutely supurb 16 X 20's out of just about all 5Mp cameras. I think a lot has to do with exposure and lens quality. Also...I'll be printing on textured, matt papers (2200) and send out for larger sizes. I'm not as worried about getting the size as I am about getting files that require too much time in PP to make it worth my while.

--I've used a 5050, I've printed files from a 5050, and you sir are no Dan Quayle. Poetattoe. Pootahhto, or otherwise. I've got a couple of beautiful 13 x 19 portraits from a 5050 done on an Epson 1270, and I will have to respectfuly disagree with the above.
