I noticed that the price has dropped by $50 merely one month after introduction. Is Canon releasing a replacement very soon? Maybe a similar model with WiFi?

VERY VERY unlikely! (I rather would have wifi than the GPS)

To put in perspective, much of the time the sx230 was priced @ us$249 (retail $299) in 2011. For several weeks around Thanksgiving last year, it was $199 from bestbuy & others, on-line at least. That sort of pricing places expectations in customers.

The sx260 has retailed for $349, but on-line pricing has gradually gone down to sub $299, as an intro price at least, because of customer expectations.

Thus, merchants are having to compete, and the $299 price seems to be ok with Canon USA officially (even Amazon will NOT allow sub $299 from sellers but some get around this by selling them as 'used' !!) , thus the prevailing price.

This downward pricing will halt, soon if not now, and this is for the 'likely' class leading 'travel zoom' which from reports so far have it as 'mostly' better than all the competition, but with less features than some.

I am frankly surprised that the 'competition' has not lowered their prices, I can not see how they selling very well, IMO.

Maybe this is the reason, maybe not?

I think its not selling well cause many people got an SX230HS for great prices back in Dec/Jan. (Frys had them for $149.00 and free shipping, which I bought two at that time) and the reviews are not an apparent improvement over the 230 except for the longer zoom. Now they are both the same price because the 230 has been going back up as supply diminishes.

Damn, there was a 10% off coupon for Mother's day at Newegg, it was $270.

BTW, I compared it to the Panasonic ZS15 (Many think that it's better than the ZS20), and I found the Canon better. AWB was more accurate, especially with skin tones. Noise was lower at any given ISO, while maintaining the same amount of detail. Geometrical distortion was noticeably lower at wide angle (however the Panasonic has definitely wider angle, more than the difference in the spec suggest). As far as design, I found the Canon to be better as well. The buttons are bigger and better marked. The flash location is better. I also found that the Canon flash was a little more powerful, but only just.

I really want a sx260, but does Canon have a patch (chdk or something like that) that allows raw to be used? Lepewhi

Of course. Canon discontinues new camera releases starting a month after they're released. I thought everyone knew that.
