Very pleased to see the AA battery capability - this makes it a camera that I'll consider. I'd like to get a hybrid with good video capabilities - what I really want is the 1080p60 mode that's sure to be in Panasonic's next GH-series M43 camera. But I have a decent investment in Pentax lenses, so I just might go for the K30 when it becomes available.

24MP With Full Frame, K-3(probably)
Great camera for the price !
Another homerun for Pentax.

The K-5 replacement will probably have the Sony 24 Mp sensor!

Looks like a great camera that will sell very well and might become a real classic. It is a shame I own two K-5 cameras or I would have brought the K-30. The K-30 makes one wonder what is in store for the K-5 replacement/upgrade.

Why would you want the whole world to pay extra for an HDMI port and the requisite sealing when all you need to do is pop the card out and stick it in your laptop? As far as I am concerned, that's the kind of intelligent tradeoff I'm glad Pentax made to help keep costs down. Keep the truly important features, dump the fluff that isn't really needed by most users. Especially given that if I care enough about an image to ant to see it on my TV, I certainly would be likely to want to do a bit of processing first.

as i understand, hdmi out is for the elitists who want to run a live feed to a monitor so they can see their video in full detail while recording. the problem is this camera doesnt even have a mic jack, so its obviously not targeted for videophiles. if u want a pentax for video, u get the k-01. im glad it was left out as well, i want a pure photo camera, ill buy the gh2 when i want to make a movie.

K01 doesm't have livefeed with HDMI out. You can only use HDMI in playback mode on K01 ... yeah it's that bad

Sounds like you're a few years behind the curve because I'm guessing you don't have a computer with an HDMI out that's hooked up to your tv.

For the HDMI out, I'm guessing you'll have to wait on the new flagship, but I'm guessing you'll complain about the price.

Sorry. Everyone else is excited to finally see top of the line IQ placed first here, but I guess even that's not good enough for the whiners.
No HDMI out that killed my interest.
Can't hook it up to the HDTV to view photos. Another miss for Pentax.

well for me, as i shoot dance schools using hdmi out to a big screen for parent viewing what a dissapointment, the k7 lives on for another year.

cheers don

I regularly have the HDMI output of my K5 connected to a 24" monitor when shooting a job. While it doesn't allow file transfer it is crucial for quickly checking critical focus as the shoot progresses - especially as the AF can be hit and miss at times. Obviously these numerous omissions by Pentax are designed to up-sell people to the K5's replacement.... assuming of course it comes with all the features culled from the models released thus far. Whatever it is, the K5's replacement should be well specced and hopefully not some 'almost pregnant' offering.

mmmmm read the above again, i never said it had an hdmi feed, i just said its better for video due to the mic jack. the k-01 has more features than the other choices when it comes to video. were u just looking for something to disagree with? perhaps if u want to argue video u can go to the canon threads, pentax users dont seem to care as much.

I just ordered a K5 and I got a little spooked. Should I have waited? No I don´t think so. K5 is a bargain and has more options and controls. It is also better built. However it shall be interesting to se if imagequality is much better in K30. If the imagequality is far better It will make my brain bleed. :)
