Just happened to check this morning, on a whim. The D800E is now available from BestBuy, by mail, or locally, in a couple of weeks. I just placed an order for one, to be picked up at my local store on June 5.

June 5th is 2.5 weeks away. That doesn't seem right. If they have it in stock, why would it take so long to get it to your local store? If they don't have it in stock, how would they know they will have it by then? Nikon doesn't give advanced warning.

When I checked a few minutes ago the availability was 7-30 days, meaning they are just guessing.

Well, I hear what you're saying. But as long as I've been checking, including yesterday, the D800E has not even been listed on the BestBuy website, only the D800 (which was almost always out of stock). So something seems to have happened. Also, I just checked, and they have charged the full amount to my credit card. Doesn't prove anything, of course, but it's going to irritate a lot of customers if they do this and then don't deliver. And though I'm not a BestBuy fan by any means, they do seem to have done better than anyone else at making D800's available over the last month or so.

Thanks for the info. Lets see if who will come first.. Amazon on Feb 7 or Best buy on May 18th!

Thanks for the heads up chashertz. And thanks to the wonder of smartphones I ordered minutes after your post while on the train on my way to work, woohoo. Also got 18 months interest free, free shipping, BestBuy points to get (offset the tax also) some extra goodies and a 45 day return policy for reward zone members.

Now if the dang thing only ships I'll be in business.

Thanks chashertz for BestBuy D800E info.

My local BestBuy pick-up date to June 6.

I could kiss you. Pickup local store June 5. Come on Amazon save me $165.

Ordered one and Best Buy says delivery will be June 6.

I've had the L-bracket lying around for weeks. Maybe now I'll be able to attach it to the unit it was made for.

Mike

Thanks for the heads-up. Ordered one from Best Buy and it will be available for store pick-up on June 6th which seems about the norm. Hopefully they have sufficient in stock for all of us who have ordered. Beats the B&H estimate of several months. Will leave my B&H order until I pick-up the one from Best Buy,

Don't trust Amazon or BH preorders will get filled in next 2 months.

Here's my guess. Nikon doesn't predict or give notice, but it's reasonable that Best Buy would get notice of the arrival of a container in Long Beach, CA with its name on it. Allow time for trucking to the center where Best Buy parcels the contents out for trucking to its various stores and maybe you get 2.5 weeks. It may take less time, and Best Buy may just be avoiding imposing time pressures on itself.

Just a guess. But if I get an email to go to the store on June 6, and I actually pick one up, I'll report back.

Mike

I did the same thing. I got a promotional email from BB this AM so I went to their site and checked out the body-only DSLR options just for kicks. Lo and behold, there was the D800E with in-store pickup! Decided, what the heck, I am back ordered everywhere else, why not here? Of course, they hedge the bet by saying estimated pickup date is June 5th so we will see.

I realized that not only did I get 18 months free financing I also got triple points as a reward zone customer. The triple points offer ends tomorrow so perhaps folks that ordered today can still take advantage of it, that's like $195 on the D800E.

I don't get it, what's not to trust? If they don't ship in time you just cancel, if there's an issue with the camera you just walk into the store and give it back.
