Anyone got D800 focus issue fixed by Nikon USA

that's what they said. When i asked then how long before Nikon would get back to them the lady said no more than 2 weeks, which makes me think Nikon has no clue how to fix this

I've also been in contact with another poster on here who dropped his 800E at camera clinic and his couldn't be fixed either. Another forum member had his returned to a service centre in Brisbane an he wrote that he got his back not fixed.
"They said the camera has been improved but they can't get consistent results."

Wow! Not exactly what you want to hear from Nikon on a brand new camera!

This is getting just plain weird as all hell. I will literally be dancing in the streets should I be lucky enough to receive an unaffected body. Sorry to hear of your troubles, and thanks again for your reporting on the issue--much appreciated!

By the way, I've already returned my affected D800 to Best Buy, so while I do not have a camera in service, I called Nikon, El Segundo, yesterday anyway and spoke to someone (not a technician) for several minutes. When asked about the problem, said he hadn't heard any reports of the "left-AF" issue within the last several weeks. I repeated several of the reports made here, and was only told they will be happy to receive my camera for service should I have a problem. I asked if my question regarding the frequency of the left-AF issue could be relayed to a technician, or senior service manager, through him, and he said "no." He added, even if I did bring a camera in, I would not be able to speak directly to a technician or any other senior service manager about the issue.

I dropped mine off today in El Segundo. Fingers crossed. I was told 7-10 business days. Will update with results.
Seems like the Melville repair center knows how to deal with the issues.

Has anyone that sent theirs to El Segundo had any success with a repair?
I dropped mine off at El Segundo last Friday morning and the online status sat the same until yesterday when I called and they said they would put it on priority and I should get it by Monday (6 working days). I was told when I dropped it off it was priority because it was a new camera. I also left them my 24-70 and 70-200II to callobrate. As of this morning the online status has not changed.

However, my problem is I could not get the center point to even focus. Maybe, I will have the left focus point problem when it gets back. I should have tested the left focus point as well (lensalign), maybe it focused and the center did not.

I'm not in the USA but Australia
Took my d800 to an Authorized service centre on the 7th

Got a phone call today telling me that they realigned the focus points BUT it has not solved the problem.
They said the camera has been improved but they can't get consistent results.

I've been told that they have contacted Nikon and are waiting for Nikon to advise them what to do next.

When i first dropped the camera off i was told that they are waiting for a software kit from Nikon which they received on the 9th to deal with the problem, obviously that has not worked.

I have contacted my supplier explaining the situation and have asked for an exchange...will wait and see what happens
At least it sounds like the service centre in Australia is communicating honestly with you.

Camera Clinic in Melbourne are pretty good people. ATM I am scared that when my D800 arrives it WILL have focus issues.

Guess I will be dissecting it with lens align to check the minute it turns up.

Small world Resident ............... Was quite funny, after you left they where struggling to actually understand what you meant about the edge focus zones not being in focus. I actually elaborated on your behalf so they understood exactly what was going on. :)

small world indeed

I actually only left the camera there because they said they were aware of the problem as another person had brought a camera in so i thought they knew what was going on.

Any way i'll get it sunday and then send camerapro the repair description from camera clinic and that should be enough to get a replacement

They have been great and even though i have picked the camera up they said they will follow up with Nikon and get back to me once they're aware of what to do.

i've only had to use them once in the past and were great then too, I'm sure they're frustrated no knowing themselves.
