My D3200 was stolen along with the box :-(

Have you tried any sites that searches the web for the meta/exif data in the picture? The serial number is typically embedded in there. If you have an old picture, you could try a site like stolencamerafinder and see if anything turns up.

Yep, uploaded to that last night. Also emailed people on craigslist selling D3200s checking serial numbers ("worried about batches with focus issues"). No hits yet.

i tried one and it came back that my serial number was a D5000 when in fact my cam is a D5100

I'd recommend that you contact Nikon (distributor)and let them know as it might just be that some idiot will try to register the warranty with the serial number.
