Thanks for letting me know Jon. I just ordered 2 from dell this morning. What a deal. Can't beat that with a stick. Not to mention "free shipping" too. Total was like 96.00 then the two 20.00 mail in rebates. 256meg for like 56 bucks. Whooo hoooo

the pdf rebate file is only for $10. and expired the end of last year. Hope they update that soon.
List price is $55.99 minus 10% = $50.39 minus $20 mail-in rebatie =
$30.39.

Limit 2 per person/address/etc., so that's a little better than
what the Amazon.com ScanDisk deal was running with a limit of
1/person. Here is the link:

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?Sku=A0038045&category_id=4325&customer_id=19&c=us&l=en&cs=19

Thought everybody would be looking to stock up after some of the
recent announcements.

Get the rebate pdf at Buy.com. It's a generic form with the correct dates and doesn't say Buy.com on it.

The rebate on Buy.com is listed under the standard Lexar stick, it does not appear on the page for the transluscent stick.

Second, there is only one UPC code on the rebate, so I'd bet it only applies to the standard stick.

The deal on Buy is for $34.99 with free shipping for the standard lexar 128mb stick and they have the right rebate(for the moment).

The picture there at Dell is for the new LEXAR MEDIA MS128-281 (UPC 650590103652) but the Manufacturer Part#listed is MS128-132 which is for the standard stick.

The 10.00 rebate some have posted about is for the 64MB sticks not the 128MB sticks.

Could anybody tell me what the different between transluscent and regular memory stick?

The new Translucent Lexar Memory Stick (MS128-281) has the following differences that I know of :
A built-in LED 'in-use' indicator.
An erasure protection switch like a standard floppy disk.
A 350KB/sec. access speed.

A 5 year warranty instead of a 90 day warranty like the Part #: MS128-132 (VALUE LINE INET 90DAY WTY )
------------

The following link will take you to a price shopping page that shows both types of the Lexar 128MB stick.

Translucent Memory Stick...

Reduce the risk of losing your images with the newly designed Lexar Media Memory Stick. Now available in a translucent

purple shell, the memory card includes an LED safety light, which flashes while recording data, reducing the chance that you'll

accidentally remove it from the camera while data is being written. Available in memory capacities of up to 128 MB.

Lexar Media's enhanced Memory Stick comes in a translucent purple shell and features a built-in LED 'in-use' indicator that

'lights when it writes' to reduce the risk of corrupting data due to premature removal from a host device.

The new Memory Stick's LED lights when it writes and will stop blinking once data has been fully and safely stored or

transferred to a device.

Lexar Media's Enhanced Memory Stick 'Lights When it Writes' to Protect Against Accidental Data Loss

PMA, Orlando, FL, February 24, 2002 -- Lexar Media Inc. (Nasdaq: LEXR), a leading designer, developer and marketer of

award-winning high-performance digital media and reader products, debuts its new enhanced Memory Stick at the Photo

Marketing Association trade show (PMA), Orlando, Florida, on February 24 - 27. Lexar Media's enhanced Memory Stick

comes in a translucent purple shell and features a built-in LED 'in-use' indicator that 'lights when it writes' to reduce the risk of

corrupting data due to premature removal from a host device.

"Lexar Media is pleased to bring this new enhancement to the highly successful Memory Stick format," said Eric Stang, president

and CEO, Lexar Media. "Anyone can occasionally lose data by removing digital media cards prematurely. Even worse,

improper memory card removal can sometimes cause complete card failure. Our new data-safe light lets users know when their

data has been safely stored to the card, providing an extra level of protection."

Lexar Media was kind enough to send me a sample of their latest enhanced Memory Stick. This is a translucent purple stick that

has a green LED safety light that lights when you write.

The LED gives you a visual indicator when it is in use so that you won't eject it during the process of writing data to your PDA,

camera etc. It also has an erasure protection switch like a standard floppy disk. When the switch is in the Locked position,

content is secure and cannot be transferred to or from the Memory Stick. I've been using the sample in my NR70V for a couple

months now, and it has worked like a champ!

Not all of them do the jobs that 007 requires, but they do light up at the end when reading and writing. You won't be able to tell if your camera has a door on it.

Despite the published speed differences, they all perform at the same speed regardless of brand or model. I did .tif write/read speed tests when I got the new Lexar stick.

Just get the cheapest deals you can. Got mine for $30 US a couple months ago, retail at CompUSA. It also took that long to get the rebate. DO worry about possible shipping and handling prices. They can easily eat up the savings.

I'd like to purchase one of these from dell...But does the rebate
apply to the translucent sticks? Thanks.
The rebate available here applies to the purple sticks:
http://www.techdepot.com/RebateInfo.asp?RebateId=3180

The rebate on Dell's website is the wrong one.
There's something wrong with the Dell ad in addition to the rebate.

The Part #: MS128-132 in the ad is for a Value Line Lexar stick that has only a 90 day warranty.

The UPC on the Dell rebate is UPC 650590103324 which isn't covered by the TechDepot rebate.

The TechDepot rebate for the 128MB sticks is for UPC's 650590103652, 650590104086, and 650590101801.

You really need to get a confirmation from Dell about exactly what the Part # and UPC is for the sticks they're selling.

Maybe someone here has already recieved some of these sticks from Dell and will provide the Part # and UPC for what they recieved.

There are currently two $20 rebates available from Lexar.
The first:
http://ak.buy.com/buy_assets/retail/pdfs/004/National_Internet_MS_Q103.pdf

is valid for upc 650590103324 which I assume is the standard stick part #MS128-132(which btw is listed with a 5 year mfr warranty at many sites).

The second rebate:
http://cache.techdepot.com/comassets/MfgCoupons/3180.pdf

covers UPC 650590103652, 650590104086, and 650590101801. Which I assume covers the purple stick part#MS128-281 and possibly other model sticks.

The Dell site is confused about which stick they are selling, in any case the 10 percent off is over so Dell's price is now $55.99-$20 rebate=$35.99 and maybe free shipping?

Buy.com is selling the standard stick part# MS128-132 for $54.99-$20 rebate=$34.99 and they do have free shipping.

Buy.com is also selling the purple stick part# MS128-281 for $61.16-$20 rebate=$41.16 but no free shipping and they don't list the rebate for MS128-281 on their site.

That's the situation as it stands now. There are a lot of sites that are mixing up part numbers and pictures and rebates for lexar sticks. We can only guess which stick dell is actually selling.

I dug out the box for the lexar 128mb stick(not translucent) I bought like 8-9 months ago.

The part#MS128-231 and UPC 650590101801 which is covered by the current rebate for tranlucent sticks.

Excellent summary Avernus1!

I agree that there's a lot of confusion about which stick is actually being sold and the warranty for it which will probably result in disappointment for some buyers and a bonaza for others that get MS128-281 sticks for MS128-132 prices.

The few listings I've seen for the MS128-231 sticks usually are out of stock which makes me think it's discontinued.
