Went out to the west coast last weekend for a wedding on Saturday, however my amazing fiance gave us Friday to drive up to Big Sur for some photography and sightseeing. Not nearly enough time but we had a blast. My dilemna the whole day was trying to figure out where i was going to be for sunset. Ending up finding an unmarked valley which i really liked, near Garrapata SP. Here's a trio of shots from the evening. C&C welcome.

Very nicely done!

Nice images. Would be interesting to hear what you did in post.

wonderful place for photo opportunities, Love the first shot

Thanks all. The lens used was the Nikkor 10-24 for 1 and 3, and the 16-85 for the second. As for PP , #1 just boosted the shadows and did some dodging in PS, a testament to the DR of the D5100. #2 some contrast/dodging/sharpening. #3 I ended up doing a manual blend, although I went back out of curiousity and reprocessed with just one raw file later, with very similar results. Thanks again for the comments.

Thanks for replying. I would have bet you had done something to bring out shadows, but to my eye they don't look too overcooked. Congrats on not falling into the trap of HDR/tone mapping your pictures into oblivion.

Sorry to be ignorant, what do you mean by 'dodging'?

There are optimists and there are realists

As others have said, these photographs are excellent. My favourite is the third one. I like the colour balance between the flowers in the foreground and the sky on the right.

Really beautiful work. These two lenses are just great on the D5100.

Dodging(lightening) and burning(darkening) are terms carried over from film processing. Someone more knowledgeable than me could probably elaborate a little more. Basically in PS terms its just selecting a brush and lightening/darkening the areas you want. It can help give an image a little extra "pop" sometimes.
