I just happened to be driving up Scottsdale Road when I realized Wilson Camera was around the corner. I looked them up on my iPhone and gave them a call. Asked if they had any OMD's and was put on hold for 5 minutes. Turned out they had one arriving tomorrow.

They were marking it up an extra $50 and it was black with a 12-50. I was hoping for silver. Needless to say, I drove over there as if on autopilot and gave them a credit card without thinking twice.

So, I'm driving out of the lot wondering how it was so easy to rack up an additional $1450 on my credit card. I'm a real dummy sometimes. But I'll be a happy dummy and they're offering a lot of nice free additions, including a one day photo seminar, which is always fun.

Ehh. I dunno, I have a problem with retailers marking up products just because they can and pocketing the difference. Yes it's capitalism and they have every right, but I can't in good conscience enable that behavior.

I have problems with markups like that as well. There was absolutely no reason to buy it. But my lack of patience got the best of me, and I'm sure I'll have forgotten about the gauging by this time tomorrow.

On the flip side, it's a small outfit and camera shops are disappearing every year. I don't mind paying a bit more (which for any other camera is usually MSRP) if their customer service is decent and they are helpful. This shop was very friendly and didn't make me feel like I was intruding on their Minesweeper time. They were offering as much tech support time as was needed, which while useless to me may be helpful for less technically savvy folks out there.

What's 50 bucks at the end of the day? How much time would you waste in trying to save a few dollars.

Its brilliantly built, and as soon as you start to find the controls, its becoming a phenominal camera. Its both easy to use when you understand how the menu systems work, and then there is a deep well of adjustability.

Read the DPReview site's here setup ideas, they should help.

I haven't read the manual yet ... perhaps I should!!

It's nothing at all, seeing as how it is his money :) The principle of it bugs me, that's all.

You suffered an acute attack of G.A.S, I am sure it must be classed as a medical condition now, so you had no responsibility for your actions and should simply enjoy your camera ;)

It's supply and demand. It is a low availability item - I'm more annoyed when they try to rip people off from innocent ignorance, by this I mean, trying to sell someone a $20 filter for $100.

If we had to abide by the philosophy that we couldn't buy anything if it was unfairly priced, I wouldn't be able to buy anything in Australia - iTunes anyone? Why are digital downloads more expensive in Australia?

As it is, I buy most things online because we're getting reamed from 30% to 100% on many items.

what is $50 ... check the list price for body only.

US - $999
Europe - €1099

however a quick google translate gives €1099 = $1400 so I paid $400 more for the pleasure :( a 40% mark-up.

There's a one word answer for that . . . Greed! I know Wilson Camera and I wouldn't buy a battery from them. Years ago I ordered a Nikon D70 from them. It was at their Mesa store. I had to put $150 down on it even though they were sending it from their Scottsdale store. It took longer than I thought and decided to cancel the order. They wouldn't refund my deposit. Like I said, I wouldn't buy as battery from them.

As another poster pointed out, $1450 is a *$150* markup, not a $50 markup. I wouldn't reward that kind of profiteering, and freebies such as day long seminars aren't really free if a day of your time is worth more than you're getting in educational value from the seminar.

Just some things to consider in case it is possible to cancel your order. Besides, the black kit seems to be the least rare OM-D.

No, it's a $50 markup. The $100 is sales tax for the privilege of living in the sometimes-fine State of Arizona. Still less than VAT I'd imagine.

The point of the post was they probably could have marked it up $200, but such was my compromised state of mind upon learning there was one arriving in town, unspoken-for, that I think I would have plunked it down with a witless smile on my face even then.

I was originally planning on waiting for a few months until they became more common.

This is my first purchase from Wilson Camera. We will see how things turn out.

Sometimes you get a steal, sometimes you don't. The best thing to do is enjoy the camera and don't look back.

Remember what we used to pay for computers back in the early 90's? When I bought my first computer, my friend who helped me through it gave me that advice. She said that if I waited a couple of months, there would always be something better and cheaper, but I would not have the use of the computer and I could wait indefinitely. (I paid $2,000 for that Mac Quadra 605 and 13" color monitor, with a 25MHz processor and a 80 MB hard drive and 8 MB of RAM--and that 4 MB RAM upgrade was an additional $200. Yes, MB. Not GB.) Remember what they used to do with popular car models back in the 80s and 90s? I once had to fight like crazy to get a dealer to remove a $3,000 dealer markup and sell me a car at MSRP, because it was in such short supply and I wanted it. I kept it till it wore out and loved it, even though I never went back to that dealer for another car.

Don't torture yourself over a $50 markup.

Yup. Macs are a bit overpriced now, but back in the day they were crazy expensive. I saved for college and bought a Mac IIcx for the bargain price of $4500(!). And it didn't play Doom . . .

I'm not losing too much sleep on it. I picked up a paying client for once, so I'll just keep it in perspective. I always wanted to see what a child would look like if he ate ramen noodles 5 days/week as well.
