OM-D iBIS testing.

Yes, five is better than three, but nine is a different class. Also seven shots is very shallow. This is the main GH2... I was going to say shortcoming, but that's unfair, it was not designed as a high end dSLR replacement in the first place.
Yes, much better.

If I'd shot at 9fps I would have had a three by three matrix to choose from, and I'd have had the right moment and the right exposure. At 3fps (which is sort of GH2 speed) I had three shots, and none of them was "the" shot.
Since firmware 1.1 the GH2 brackets (full 7 shots) at 5fps... hardly a slouch and certainly better than the 3fps you mention above... you know this though, you own the camera??

First shot is just gorgeous use of light and lines. Exposure settings are bang on and I can see why IBIS works well for you mate, just stunning. The second shot, great colours and lighting again. Great interest in that shot.

All the best Louis, I'll still give the eye behind it all 99%, equipment, 1% ;) :)

Worry about the image that comes out of the box, rather than the box itself.

I'm still not quite following - we may be referring to different things here? Both the EM5 and the GH2 only bracket up to 7 images at a time... the EM5 is a little faster, but for exposure bracketing, both are very capable.

For plain burst shooting and image buffer, the EM5 is a lot more capable, being able to shoot a lot more images before the buffer fills and a higher rate - no argument from me there.

Going to be great then for seascape/landscape getting deep DOF in darker conditions. Kind of amazing (even though the IBIS for my EPL1 works pretty well) that you could get this clear of a shot at 1/6 under the conditions ;-). Good to hand hold too, had a friend who lost a 5d II and L lens in the tide on a tripod...ouch. I think this point of wave blur is just right too, blur, but still has that feel of movement.

It would be interesting to see this image rendered for 'Olympus colour' via Viewer 2, post processed through your usual method.

...alternatively (or additionally), using Colin's colour profile for the E-M5 here :

Although, if you had to recover highlights, that could be a problem I guess.

I'm an idle git. Also we had dinner guests last night who chose to have a massive, terminal, marital row over the main course (and I couldn't follow it in Portuguese, the accent is hard enough anyway, without people crying and/or banging the table, so zero entertainment value), hence I was obliged to get drunk in self defence. Not doing nuffin' today except cuddling dogs and mainlining asprin and diet coke while watching the grand prix. Would you like the RAW to play with yourself?

The whole "x stop" thing is a meaningless measure. The old systems did not make things critically sharp, so I really didn't care how many stops they made them better-but-not-quite-sharp for. This one, although I need to do a lot more testing and I may just have got lucky, seem to deliver sharp . Presumably there's less lag with those humming magnets.
That '5 stop' IS in the E3 was a bit naff, in my opinion.

Not seascape but urban, but same major elements:

E-M5, slow shutter, IBIS, motion blur and sharp backgrounds ...this one is hand held at 1/3 second

this is one second ..

These threads have more gems to offer to encourage IBIS doubters to believe :)

http://www.seriouscompacts.com/f2/olympus-om-d-e-m5-experience-9134/

and the best collection of E-M5 shots I've found in one thread so far ...

The E-M5 is certainly helping M43 to build a low light reputation!

Well, I agree about the x-stop advantage.

I noticed the possibility of it being a one-off lucky shot, though I didn't think you would have posted on only one shot. But even if you have, it bodes well. As you say, previous Oly IS systems almost never delivered anything this sharp.

The old system more useful as a 'soft focus' filter.

Sounds like what my "Dear Old Dad" would call "just a fine evening"... he never thought dinner was complete unless at least two people fought to near death over something trivial.. may he rest in as much peace as he allowed everyone else....

Marital rows are such fun... Usually two people you "thought" you knew well, arguing about stuff you don't understand, whether you know the language or not....

Mainlining Aspirin and coffee myself this morning.. (ran out of Diet Coke at 2AM dammit!). I had a horse knock me on my pratt yesterday.... full body ache.... Gahhhhh!

I looked at the photo you started this thread with, and looked at it, and looked at it... Took yet another aspirin and sighed..... Ahhhh! If I only had your talent....

My lord what a lovely photo..

That new camera will serve you well, I can tell...

I've been out of touch for 2 days or so, come back to find this - astounding, Louis. Somewhat unbelievable - but I believe. :)

I was at a resort with Anna the past two days - sunsets and rises were really beautiful, but I didn't want to put my wife through that (she's a trooper about my obsession, but deserved full attention for a change). Now that we've left and have a few more days off, regular-like. . . the next 4 days are 75% - 100% cloudy w/rain. Doh!

I did do some flow studies on the trip yesterday, but broke out the tripod by habit.

Again, Louis - the hand-held results an awesome bonus on top of your eye to the scene. The latter is da bomb, of course.

When seeing these images don't even care about IS, liked much, the light here in Portugal is fantastic isn't it ?
