Even though I find this guy hugely entertaining, has he EVER had anything nice to say about a camera? I've watched his review of almost every m4/3 camera and it's always the same. "Why did they do this?" "Why is this button here?" "Why can't I capture this fighter jet two miles up in the air with the included kit lens?" Things like that. Again, I really like the reviews, but I consider them more of a demonstration of comedy than an honest review.

To be honest, his review of the OM-D/E-M5 is actually much more positive than most other m4/3 cameras (judging by the how many negative things he had to say vs. others).

What you have to remember is this guy is not a photographer. His business sells cameras and he is biased towards certain manufacturers. Olympus is not one of them.

+1

You should see his latest "review",he compares the Lytro to a "woman's pleasuring device"

These videos are at best for popcorn watching.

i can never understand why people get so upset by his reviews, it's more entertainment than a serious review, and the anti Olympus sentiment that people thinks he has is just laughable.

Well I guess they mostly cater to selling leicas then with some Nikon's thrown in on the side then. I'm just saying because those seem to be what he likes best. He certainly doesn't seem to like Sony's much. Out of all the mirrorless he seems to like m43 the most...
Just saying...

And remember that they film everything with a 5D mk2... And the personal kit (which is often used as well) of the videographer is an Olympus Pen.

So I'm sceptical towards the people claiming they're somehow in the pockets of one manufacturer. Maybe they ought to look at how they're interpreting things themselves?;)

Can you blame him? Digital Rev sells cameras, so he's a sales men, and a good one at that! Personally, I rather have his real-world in the flesh type of reviews than some shots of test charts.

His preference for Leica and Nikon (he puts Nikon straps on anything that isn't a Leica) is obvious, but reviews are subjective by nature. If they weren't 2 independent reviews would come up with the exact same result.

He isn't that bad to cameras. His summaries are usually positive. Why shouldn't he point out things, which camera industry still hasn't got right (i.e. the many EM-5 firmware quirks).? I prefer reviews, which have a balanced, realistic view of a product, instead of the endless, non-informative "hype blogs" all around. If a control is at the wrong place, it should be named, if the ergonomics of a camera do not work well, it should b e said. Only by this, vendors can be forced to improve their products. That this really works can be seen by the product evolution from the G1 towards the GH2.

It is the role of the vendors to hype their products, it is the responsibility of the reviews to discover the issues.

. . . And if he thinks that the E-PL3 is a girly camera, we should give it to a girl and get a Panny.

There are a thousand objective (more specification) driven reviews online, so you should look elsewhere if that's what you're looking for. DigitalRev is not one of them, and is more theatrical in their videos, which is why they've garnered the number of views that they have. They try to be different, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's just one guy's opinion on whatever cameras is currently coming out. Kai is entertaining. I don't take his reviews too seriously, neither should you.

Don't get me wrong, I find his reviews hugely entertaining. I think he should be an actor! I just watched the Nikkor 85mm review he does where he uses it to shoot a pole dancer in a dimly-lit room. Now that's classy!

But yes, actually, he wasn't very bad to the OM-D at all if you compare to his other reviews. And no, I don't go there for serious reviews. He bashes the GF3 to no end, but I bought one and love it AFTER seeing his reviews.

I just thought I'd share that review if people hadn't come across it yet. It was one of the more entertaining ones. Though it would be hilarious to see in one of the dpreview.com summaries "Girly Camera" as either a pro or a con :-)

Cheers,
