... or has anyone else just about had it with the all the talk about the D800? I have a D700 and (shock! horror!) I'm really happy with it. Call me a Luddite, but I have no problems with focus, no problems downloading, no issues with hand-holding or motion blur.

Maybe it's because I still use film, too? ;)

Nikon Cafe has now broken down the FX forum into sub-forums: FX (D700/D3/D3s), D800/E, D4.

Incredibly silly and pointless post.

It's very normal - new camera(s) and forum of course will be flooded with all the talks about the newest kid on the block.

Wait til a few more months and it will die down a bit. But along with all the talk about D800 I see my fair share of the bitter posts trying to justify why they're not getting the D800 as well... so go figure.

People don't wanna hear about D800 and then posting why they don't want to hear about D800 - which in a way posting about D800. The irony....

I'm with you. I wish there was a separate forum then everyone would be happy.

They should divide this forum into sub forums , something like:
  • D800 problems sub thread
  • This is the 12th D800 I am returning thread
  • D800 I just put an order for one thread
  • D800 I just got a call that they will deliver it on Monday thread
  • D800 I just checked UPS tracking and it's at my local post office thread
  • D800 I went to pick it up but I forgot to bring my ID thread
  • D800 Amazon where is my D800, Harry my neighbour already got one you suck thread
  • I just got my D800 here's my cat thread
  • I am sick of hearing D800 thread
  • You lot D800 bashers should jump into ocean thread
  • I am not getting D800 and hence you all D800 owners are stupid thread
  • I am Canon user but I want to troll the D800 thread
  • I actually don't like either Canon nor Nikon but I thought I'd just troll away thread
  • I can't decide to get a D800 or a new sofa thread
  • I won't be one of the first to get D800 hence you all early adopters are stoopid (but the truth is I just haven't saved up enough money for one) thread

LMFAO!

There was a chap on here yesterday (possibly the day before), he wrote that he was literally sat at his computer all day pressing the F5 key every other minute to check the status of his UPS delivery.

How sad is that?

Sorry I forgot 1 more sub forum suggestion:
  • Oh noes I just spent 3 grand for Sigma SD1 and now D800 came out - I'd just bash D800 to make myself feel better thread

Ditto

I was less than 1 day away from selling my D700 on ebay to preorder the D800. I had all the pictures taken of my camera, shutter actuations & even had the entire listing ready to be posted within my "Garage Sale" program on my mac, but I changed my mind at the last second. I'm glad i did, i got some great pics while others were posting on this site about order delays, focus problems, which lens etc.

I bought a nice panasonic camcorder, a B&W ND3 filter & a new ball head & still have a little extra $$$ left. And i don't have to downsample anything!

I guess my craving for the latest & greatest was the driving force for wanting to change, but for me, common sense prevailed & I'm happy

...but that D4 is looking pretty good :)

Good on you Todd! I'm glad common sense prevailed.

Only 6000-odd actuations though? Jeez that's nothing!

well

i have not owned a nikon product since the F1...

and can clearly, see why there is such a hubbub...

Literally, I can see why thru the viewfinder and in my beautiful prints, why so many people are all a-agagga... over this new camera

No, its not because you use film.

You are having the same feelings I had when the D700 came out and took over the D3 talk. What was interesting about that was the D700 had the same sensor as the D3 and people talked as though it was a "new" sensor and light gathering machine.

Wait until the rumored D600 comes out, it will take over this forum if they have not made sub-categories. Your D700 will be all but forgotten, like the D3, D3s, D3x, etc. posts.

Thanks for the comments, agreement and otherwise.

From what I have read the D800 sounds like an amazing camera. And I know that there has been a lot of hype and buzz about it for a long time and everyone was anticipating getting their hands on it and then there was the earthquake and tsunami and Nikon didn't make enough and now that they are all coming through bit by bit (even though the professionals got theirs first) they don't focus properly...

Look, I'll probably even end up buying one in a year or so, because I can see a need for a sharp, high image quality digital camera. I've been thinking abut buying a digital back for my 4x5 but could never justify the outrageous expense, and the D800 will most likely be an excellent option. And in truth I would probably also be annoyed if I had been through what many of you have been through and received a camera that wasn't quite what I had expected, either through genuine problems or higher-than-possible expectations.

I know the arguments about this being a 'gear' forum, and the D800 is the latest gear. But surely there is SOMETHING else that needs a bit of air?

Isn't it hard getting the film in the D700???? At least the D800 doesn't have that problem.

Fred

Slide film is easier to get into the d700!!!!

I thought everyone would know that Polaroid film is best in digital cameras--it's instant.
