Epson 2200 Paper

I failed miserably with Kodak paper. Smeared all over the print, but have been impressed with the Enhanced Matte paper - about $16 for 50 sheets at CompUSA. I've heard of others that are about twice as expensive, which I'm sure I'll try, but it's hard for me to imagine that they can get much better than what I've seen on the Enhanced Matte (Epson paper).
What type of paper are you using with your Epson 2200.
Whuch is the longest lasting?

Thanks
Marc

Marc,

Epson premium semi-gloss and enhanced matte do very well. For non-Epson papers, check out http://www.redriverpaper.com . They have a section on their website devoted to the 2200 with some very good papers. I use their polar satin and ultra pro satin in the 2200 with excellent results...same with their Polar matte.. They claim about the same longevity as the Epson papers.

Greg is so right. I have and Epson Printer (older one) and used HP Glossy at some point

because it seemed like a good deal. Wrong, got the smeared ink, etc. so stick with Epson papers.

Besides the needs of the EPSON 2200 in generally matte paper are the only ones lasting for dozens of years. Papers with resin and or glossy coating looking alike real photopaper have a short live. During years the resin coating can break and/ or seperate from the paper layer. They are not resistant to UV esxposure. Matte papers with a matte coating (gelatine) made 100% of cotton have a lifetime of hundreds of years if they are stored in proper conditions (neither too dry nor to wet). The look is different to glossy coated papers nevertheless showing better contrast and crisp details. Please look for Schoellershammer, Arches and Hahnemühle in the Internet. Their large ranges of paper types and formats are sold under different brand names. This matte paper types works with ink and pigmented inks. In the case of 2200 you need matte ink to achieve best black contrast. The paper should be feed via the back entrance of the printer sheet by sheet beacuse it is thick like a thin cardboard.

Hope this information helped you

Both the Epson premium semi-gloss and premium luster are rated for longer than the enhanced matte papers for longevity. In addition, the luster and semi-gloss are very water resistant and have more durable surfaces than the matte paper. The one matte-like paper that is quite good regarding longevity is the Epson watercolor paper. I use the luster mostly for print sales for the above reasons and because it can be purchased in rolls for large panorama prints. If you buy the 24 inch wide rolls and cut your own sheets, you can greatly reduce your paper costs.
