I can't figure out how to save settings on my a100. When I'm in aperture priority mode my focus mode is focus area selection. It comes up like that every time I power up the camera. When I'm in auto mode, I want the settings to match those, but they always switch back to wide af area focus. It changes even when I just change the mode dial. Can anyone tell me of I can change the default focus setting for auto mode and save it?

I've noticed the same thing.

Further, I've found Auto mode is the only setting that's good for flash, so I always have to remember to set the spot focus.

in menus try setting control dial to aperture mode, focus hold butt. on focus hold so you can hold shutter halfway, compose then follow through and shoot.that way you dont have to' pick' your focus area..also make sure flash-default is on auto...try that and keep iso to the lowest possible considering shooting conditions...i also keep noise reduction off,but 90%of my shooting is 200 or below except inside with flash and low light its not a powerful flash at all.,and auto is auto it wont save focus points or spot focus ...stay away from auto..semi live-by the rule of thirds and youll advance quickly..with flash at default auto it will work the same with these settings as auto unless its set to fill or expoure comp is different off auto..good luck..

You can't. You should use P mode instead which is the same as Auto, except it will remember some of your settings that Auto mode won't.

Page 151 of the A100 manual ('Reset Default') shows what is set to default when selecting auto. AF area, it says, is reset to wide AF area.

Okay, thanks for the replies. I normally shoot A mode with my flash, but once in a while for a quickie outdoor shot without flash I will switch to Auto. I will try P mode instead for those quickie shots. Thanks again!
