Sony at CES press release

I'm not sure that its all that premature. The press release includes a list of currently compatible devices as well as devices which are compatible via a software upgrade. The 707 isn't listed in either. What I found interesting about the press release was the 32GB theoretical maximum of the media.

where as it's the dead end for 707.

From the Sony press release:
Compatibility with Current and Future Devices

While many new Memory Stick PRO media-enabled devices are expected to ship in spring 2003, certain devices currently in the market are able to accept the new format cards either natively or through a downloadable software patch.

Devices that can accept the new format cards natively include:

Sony Cyber-shot® DSC-F717 digital camera

YES!

Greg Gebhardt Nikon D1 & D1x. Sony 717, Epson 2200 & PS7
Jacksonville, Florida

From Sony press release: "Available at retail in April, 256MB, 512MB and 1GB Memory Stick PRO media will sell for about $190, $440 and $880, respectively." Holy moly, that's more than my F717! I think I'll stick with the soon to be discounted plain vanilla 128MB sticks.

DSC-P1, 19 months old, $700
DSC-F707, 10 months old, $950
DCR-PC101, 2 months old, $1250

Total: $2900

All incompatible with MSX.

I use all three in blizzards and downpours- where the last thing I want to do is open the body of the camera to flip a switch or change a stick.

In the long run, I'm sure MSX will be a great thing. But I won't forget this for a long time.

It's a shame.
