wow.. amazing pictures. Great rendering of the background as well and superb colours! I live in Hong kong and have half a mind to pick this lens up for street photography but am worried I might look like a pervert!

Thanks, and lol. With telephoto you can at least street shoot from across the road and they won't even notice you! However with the D700's loud shutter, that's not a given either :)

Thx Again.

Nice !

I use one with my D200 (can't afford D700 though would love the better high ISO etc. - but news of loud shutter is a bit disconcerting) and love it - very sharp !!!

Regards,

Al

Rough & Tumble with the 180! :)
I know I would never get rid of mine even though I am fortunate enough to have a 70-200/2.8 lens. IMO it is one of Nikon's best and underestimated lenses.

Remember, it's not the CPU that's in your camera that makes great images, it's the one located about 4" behind the viewfinder that does.

Excellent (fun) photos here. Very nice work.

I sold my 180 2.8 about a year ago. Big mistake. I photograph dogs (on the run) and had a lot of keepers with the 180 and a D300. I replaced the 180 with the 70-200VR which is a wonderful lens as well but I missed shooting with the 180. It was so light compaired to the 70-200 and the IQ was magic. I could easily pick the 180 files out of my files. They have a special look. I sold the 70-200 a few months ago and only this morning picked up another (used) 180. Looking forward to the reunion.

Just when I had convinced myself I was going to be happy with my lenses.

These are spectacular images! The colors, bokeh and composition are all excellent.

Thank you for sharing these. Please don't hesitate to post more with this lens.

180mm F/2.8 AF is a magical lens. I've used it for several years on every body from D300 through D800. However, I use it less these days and listed it for sale.

Nice pictures. An excelent demonstration of what this lens can do!

The 180 made me sell my 70-200VR.

These modern lenses may be sharper, but I love the way some of the older lenses render color and contrast.

Love the pictures and like the 180 f2.8 a lot

However, can you tell me about how far away from your kids you were when you shot these? I am interested to know.

Thanks

Mark

Colors and contast may be a little different from the 70-200. I don't think there is much of a difference in sharpness. I find the IQ similar. For me the big difference is size and weight. It is a pleasure to walk around all day with the 180. The same can't be said for the 70-200. Price was also a factor for me as well. I sold my 70-200, and have $1,000 left in my pocket after I bought a used 180.

Thanks Richard. The dog pic in your sig is a dpreview icon - you need to get another copy of the lens that took it! :)
