Hi,

i just have my brand new OMD camera with the 45mm F1.8. I could borrow the new Kenko macro extension rings and played with it in my garden.
here some results:

16mm ring.

16mm ring.

16mm ring.

10mm ring

AF worked fine with these combinations. it was on a cloudy day with no sun.

see for more images my flick set:

ps

build quality of the Kenko is high all metal and good communication with the camera.

I am glad to see someone is seeing these tubes. I have not yet located them here in the US, but am eagerly awaiting them to use with my 75-300.

Nice looking images. With the 45, depth of field obviously requires a bit of stopping down if you want any :).

Hello!
Congratulations for the pictures ... beautiful macros were very good.

Sorry my english, I am Brazilian.

I wonder which of the tubes you used the 16mm or 10mm?

The AF works really well with them?

I'll buy the OM-D in July and was thinking of buying onths tubes or a Raynox 250.

I liked the result of your pictures.

I'm more inclined to buy the tubes, but really want to know if the AF works and in general the tubes are easy to use, focus etc..

Please tell me more about your experience with tubes kenko.

AF will work, but only within a very narrow distance. That's what tubes do. You have to have the lens within the narrow working distance or the AF will not work.

That's why I prefer using tubes with zoom lenses. They operate with a tube over a wide range of distances since you have so many focal lengths to work with. You just zoom the lens until the subject is almost in focus, the use the AF system to perfect the final focus.

When I use my 70-300 four-thirds Zuiko with the EX25 (25mm) tube, working distance goes out to around 4-5 feet at 300mm. By the time I would zoom down to 70mm, the working distance becomes much closer. I would figure at 45mm with the 16mm tube the OP used, they had to get very close to those subjects in order for the AF to work.

The EX-25 for the classical FT has a controller chip with its own f/w.

Does also the Kenko extension tubes contain a chip with firmware, or is the wiring just a feed through? If so, then it's simplified from the Four Thirds version, which is good.

Yes, most were with F4.0

Really impressed with the images, bokeh is crazy. Any word on how much these will be here in the U.S.?

i think the set of two will cost 200 dollar in the US. (streetprice) it is 200 euro here.

when you have the 10mm kenko tube ring on it distance from lens to subject is about 20 centimeter. with the 16mm on it it is about 10 cm.

so still enough space to lighten the subject.

ps

when you take a wide angle lens like a 16mm the focusing distance with these rings will be as close as 1cm. so unless you want a very high magnification i would go for a lens with a focal length of 25mm or more.

I just ordered a set of these from Ace Photo, through Amazon. They were $199 for the set of three. They have one set more listed in stock.

if I may ask, where did you buy them? looking for them for sale in Europe... cannot find them anywhere :S

i did not buy them , i borrowed them.

they can be ordered through any large camera store in the Netherlands. Transcontinenta BV, the Dutch importer has got them on stock.

Thanks guys for all you advice. I really appreciate it. I cancelled my MCON-P02 Amazon order and ordered some Fotga Extension Tubes for $41 AUD. Looking forward to trying them out! It should work great with the 45mm f/1.8 for some great beginner macrohttp://www.ebay.com.au/itm/361059002598
