I have canon 850 and using canon PPP. but is there any cheaper paper available without losing the quality of the photo.
Thanks

Rohit

I like the canon photo paper plus glossy... not sure about the longevity tho (haven't owned the i850 long enough to know). i certainly can't tell the difference of photos from the two.

I have the S800, but if its any help I love the Ilford Classic
Pearl Paper, brillant results personally, but some others don't
seem to get on with it so well?
I don't like resin papers because they are not water resistant but I will use Ilford Classic Pearl for framed prints. Very good results. For everyday printing and for anything that goes into the album I use Office Depot Premium Glossy.

I tried the Ilford Classic Glossy paper on the S800 and found the paper couldn't absorb the ink fast enough. The ink would pool into tiny spots even if I set the printer to film or glossy paper in an attempt to reduce the ink it was putting down. Do you see this happening on the Classic Pearl or is it better at absorbing ink?

I have a box of Classic Glossy that I don't use because of exact same problem as you describe. Classic Pearl is a whole different story. Great detail and absolutely no ink pooling.

Hmm... I tried the Illford Classic Glossy paper on a Canon S820 ( not the 800 like yours ) and the results were unbeliievable... better than the perl stuff.

If you want to get rid of your paper, I'd be happy to take them off your hands =)

The paper is already spoken for provided I still don't like it after some setup changes but I can't test now since my printer is in the service depot. Printhead died after 7000 photos.

I have the S900. Maybe it is too fast for the paper. On thing I really wish for is for Canon to implement some sort of speed control. Often the printer is just too fast for some media.

Do you just use the printer settings suggested by Ilford for the Classic Pearl? Like you, I wish there was a speed setting on the printer--I noticed that the amount of pooling on the Classic Glossy was even affected by such minor things as the size of the print (i.e., the time the printhead had to sweep back and forth). Thanks!

I tired the settings suggested by Ilford but found that I have to reduce the intensity to minimize ink pooling.

Have you tried "Quiet" mode just out of curiousity? I think I read somewhere that it makes it quieter at the cost of being slower.

Might help, but that's just a theory of mine.

Red River 62lb Ultra Pro Satin has produced magnificent results, even on my weink system.

Just to show you how weird this print fading thing is. I stopped using this paper because I had fading in just over 2 weeks but OD paper is OK. Print quality was nice though.

We use Ilford Smooth Gloss Paper. No pooling, dry after printing and just use settings from Ilford. It doesn't have the PPP gloss but its a rich color saturated paper with a slight intensity plus when printing. The Pearl is all we use for matte with only one problem.... It stays wet and requires drying.

An easy way to slow down the printing speed is to turn on a virus checker just before you start printing.

I will get a pack of classic and try it out on an i950

I wonder if this will actually slow down true print speed, or if it will just make it print a little at full speed, pause, print a little, pause and so forth. If it works, I can think of a lot of things that will reduce the speed of your system to almost nothing. I think I could make a print take a couple of hours if I wanted to.

Please keep us posted if this works. If it does, I'll recomend some ways to slow down your system.
