Sure, Trey is an artist and a master HDR technician, but before the D800 he never got anything remotely close to this level of detail and sharpness. These are simply mind-blowing shots at full size, and will make your fingers start twitching to get ahold of a D800.

Enjoy.

I like seeing good old fashioned landscape images, well composed and natural.

Thanks for posting, but they are absolutely horrible

Artifacts EVERYWHERE. This HDR stuff is a total joke. I can't understand why people do it.

Look at the the tractor pic at 100%. Weird blotches of blue smoothness and speckly artifacting. Halos around the tractor itself. Purple fringes everywhere too which are accentuated by the HDR.

It makes the d800 look terrible, and he didn't need a d800 to do this

Soft, artifacts, purple and green fringes:

Wow... If I paid 1800 bucks for a gallery wrap canvas I would want it to be perfect. And, I WOULD pixel peep if I did. So when you look at the original image, there is chromatic aberration galore, ghosting of birds, inconsistent softness throughout... I usually like his work, but I think the HDR treatment at this size is causing more problems than it is worth... I'm surprised he put these up, in my opinion kind of rubbish... Time for people to pull the reins back on photomatix and start embracing the awesomeness of Lightroom 4. Just my opinion.

Yup. And the craziest thing is that the result isn't even something you couldn't achieve with a proper exposure and some shadow fill in lightroom. No halos, no artifacts and no random noisy/smooth patterns.

Always amusing to see the venom spew when somone links to Ratcliff images.

"terrible images / clown vomit / worst things ever done with a camera / his photos killed my dog"

His site isn't called Stuck in Customs because of delays he experiences during travel to foreign countries.

But express your hatred by all means. It will make you feel better about yourself as a photog while Ratcliff travels the world making terrible images that the unwashed prefer over your much better images. Cruel is the world that prefers his sick-making pics to your masterpieces. But the hateful zinger you posted to a gear site will let that world know how much better you are. Warm your weary (and under-appreciated) bones in glow that your spewed venom radiates.

Well said. to each their own.

I do not like those over processed images. Makes me feel I'm having seasickness.
I'm probably minority here...
