Hello!

This forum has been a great resource for me since my D1h days and continue to be a great resource at the present!

I have seen a lot of people here stressing about the D4 / D800. Whether it is about focus, cameras that have been delayed, sensor concerns, availability, there has been no shortage of anxiety-inducing, anger provoking stress.

I am currently teaching my staff nurses to look at life through Relationship Based Care. One of the tenets of this is to look at the bright side of life; that is, Appreciative Inquiry. In Appreciative Inquiry, we focus on what is going right. How many times have we asked ourselves the question "what the hell is going on; what's wrong?!" Instead of asking ourselves what is wrong, think about what is going right.

Below is a video made by National Geographic photographer Dewitt Jones entitled "Celebrating What is Right in the World." It talks about how he found the perfect photographs by seeing the best out of a situation that is not so ideal. He talks about finding the perfect frame - the better photograph - as a microcosm of our lives.

I believe that this value goes beyond photography and healthcare; it transcends life.

If you are still being stressed about your camera / gear, ask yourself this question:

What is going right for me at this moment?

I hope you enjoy the video, enjoy his photographs, enjoy your weekend, and enjoy life!

P.S.

Caveat: Focus on the message, not the camera he shoots with =)

I think that u will find that most people here are interest in "how sharp is your 20-30mm at f8" and nothing more.
Creativity and photography is not on the menu. (not in all cases).

haha!

Unfortunately, it is true. The irony is most lenses are sharp past f4; and we again fail to celebrate what is right in the world!

If all we did was celebrate what is right then nothing would change for the better. I thank God for the hell raiser.

And if all we did was listen to the doom & gloom people, we would be to depressed to change anything for the better either.

We sure need the hellraisers, complainers and fault-finders. They stop us (and manufacturers) from being or becoming complacent. But we also, often enough, need some injections of positive thinking as well.

You know the three basic personality types:

a) the pessimists who see a glass half empty
b) the optimists, who see a glass half full
c) the engineers, who see a glass almost twice the necessary size

We need all three kinds of people, and we should never one single category dominate the debate to much.

Must admit I'm somewhat surprised, but in retrospect, should not have been. I stopped for a brief rest in the middle of a busy hectic day and laid down to take brief rest with my iPad before having to run off and pick up the pace again.

I saw your thread and watched the first video, then the 2nd one, found it simplistic but valuable with a simple but true message. Too easy to miss what is in front of us with today's helper skelter hectic world. But the message in the video did resonate with me and was curious of what others felt - if anything.

The surprise is/was that only one other person, SO FAR - seems to have taken the message as it was meant.

Oh well, it's the Internet and a specialized forum.

But thank you, made to slow down in the middle of a hectic day with lots not connecting - or so I thought. Actually turns out it is a good day.

Thanks.
