Anyone got the new wein digital slave working with the sunpak 383 flash?

My setup:
Sunpak 383 Super with PC cord (6-8 volt trigger)
Wein PN-XLD digital peanut (300 feet model)
Olympus D40Z camera

I know the PC cord/flash is working because when I short out the terminals the flash fires.

TIA

I just received a Vivitar 285HV and Wein digital peanut today. I haven't tried it yet wth !D and ST-E2 and 420ex's

I'm using exactly that combination -- it works fine. I'm using an Olympus
C2100 camera.

PC connectors are notorious for not making good connection. Even though

you've tested the connectors, you can't be sure you're getting a good connection.
I suggest you crimp the outside of the connector a slight bit and then use a
small screwdriver to very slightly offset the center pin. Then insert the Wein

connector (it will be more difficult) and I think you'll see that everything works.

I've played around a little with mine, and it won't work with the pc cord either. I think this is because the Wein( mine is the peanut -100') model, uses a Vivitar style connector, not a true male (female?) pc connnector. I think you might need a Vivitar to pc adapter. ??

Done that -- still not working.

Tried it with Phoenix 66S and it fires (the voltage is over 40V). However, I can't use it with this flash because it is manual only and super low quality.

Looks like the Wein digital needs higher voltage to work. I bet your sunpak is the older model with higher than 6 volt.

Alex,

If you have a cheap/old flash laying around with high trigger voltage you may try that to verify my theory that the wein digital needs a higher voltage to work.

Ironically, I bought the new Sunpak 383 with low voltage so that it would not damage the electronics in the newer/digital camera--now it does not work!

The bottom of the page has a comment from Lymedyne about some flashes does not provided enough CURRENT to power batteryless slave even at 100 volts.

A follow up...

The wein digital slave works with a cheap $17 vivitar 2000 flash from walmart. The trigger voltage is over 200V!. Hopefully it does not damage the slave trigger.
