Is there a way to batch multiple photos for resizing or auto levels if photoshop? My husband scanned 200 or so photos and I am happy with the auto levels to clean up the pictures, but gets awful tedious! any help?

In PS6 you can create an action: go to Window-> Show Actions, a window will drop out, click on New Action icon at the bottom, name it, then click record - do what you need to, click stop. Now go File-> Automate-> Batch and run your newly created action. It's quite simple really. Now, I've been told that PS7 does away with actions so it may not work there, however manual would probably mention actions and what has come to replace them. Also adobestudioexchange.com host a large collection of existing actions so there's a chance you can simply pick up what you need there.

Not sure if you have a full version of Photoshop, or only Elements or LE. Only the full version supports Actions and therefore batch processing. If not, then read on...

If you can get the scanning parameters better sorted out for future scans, then you can at least do batch resizing with a marvellous FreeWare application called IrfanView. It's really a "must have" utility IMO. http://www.irfanview.com

For some reason adobe people have "fit image" in file-> automate menu, so it is not easo to find and all do not know about it. w/ fit image you can do resizong action where you do not need to choose landscape or portrait.

After resizing images (if you go form 2000px to 640px for example) it is wise to use unsharp mask to the pic (for example 250% / 0,2 / 1).

Irfan viewer is very good also. I can't remember if it has "fit image" type option, and you still need to process the images in photoshop for sharpening, but it is very convinient to use.

... you can include sharpening in a batch process with IrfanView. It's under "Set advanced options" in the batch setup window. Not sure about a "fit image" option, but resizing is very flexible and comprehensive.

True, there is a sharpness setting, but I find using unsharp mask more reliable.

Actually I have had a problem w/ few images when resizing in Irfan - I have got moire to few pictures after rezising w/ Lanczos filter, which has been producing very good pic before. Any idea what causes this / similar experiences? (ofcourse I was making an enlargement and not sizing down, and this might have an effect).

I also have Photoshop, but could not resist buying Atalasoft's EyeBatch 2.0, for auto-resizing and levelling.

Although purchasing a software only for batch may seem excessive, EyeBatch is FAR BEYOND everything else I've tested (and I tested a LOT!)

give it a try, and check for yourself:

Yes I have full version of photoshop 7. I don't know much about the actions yet. I tried both suggestions on haw to make a batch action, but could not figure out how to make the size options for the batch.

Could someone give exact deatils on how to make a resize action? and how to add the resize to that action? Thank you!
