So after hearing all this crazy talk about how this camera is unforgiving etc. I decided to run some tests of my own. I decided to see if I could take a steady shot with a telephoto lens hand held.

Details:

3KG lens + d800

Shutter speed: 1/25

Okay, try this:

Pentacene, handheld, 240,000,000mm, f2.8, ISO 100...

I like that. How does it do on BIF?

I know. Just having a bit of fun.

Obviously, you did a good job, too.

Thanks for the reassuring post.Still waiting here for the D800E and the non stop delivery of messages telling about D800 focus issues got me worried.

Your clothes are facing the wrong way... just saying
You know he's right.
They are facing backwards. You must be single. :)

Seems impressive, but what we really need to see, is how this shot would look if a tripod were used. Without that comparison, it's difficult to judge what you've accomplished in this example.

It's a joke. It's a hilarious joke too. LOL
...i know.. thats why i want to know so i can LOL as well :(
A beautiful example of a non sequitur, very American form of humor. The response from the OP was what made me laugh. "LOL what do you mean?" :)

It's like a carpenter showing you his finished work and then you ask him why he felt compelled to use a left handed hammer?

I don't agree. Acceptably sharp is acceptably sharp.

But, it would be interesting to know how easy that is to reproduce. Being able to get a sharp shot at 1/25s is not so interesting if you can only do it 10% of the time.

If you think it's "acceptably sharp," then that's fine - but only for you. Do not expect others to subscribe to your standards.

I happen to think that the camera can do much better than this, and I'd like to see (it may just be a limitation of the optics; I own the previous 120-300 version and I would only rate it as "good").
