Sold my LX-5 now i am confused what to get

After a lot of reading and user advices I discarded either the gh2, the g3 i was interested in the nex5n too, but flash is a must and also an OVF adding both to the nex5n the price will increase a lot and lenses are very expensive, now I am totally interested in the OMD EM 5. Expensive ? Yes it is but instead offers me a all weather magnesium body, an external flash, OLED screen and in body image stabilization, plus Panasonic and Olympus lenses are full compatible and you hace more lenses variety to choose from. I'll start with the 14-42 lens, all for 1099 usd, and then make my lens upgrades.
So much advice and it becomes very confusing doesn't it?.... I've been considering either the G3 or the GH2. Reason for these two over the others that have been mentioned. 1. Some don't have the articulating screens. 2. Some have a flip up and down screen but they don't swing out. To me very limiting. 3. Some don't have an electronic viewfinder which is a must for me.

I was definitely going with the G3 until I saw the price of GH2 had dropped a lot, but... do I want that big of camera. G3 is smaller then the G2 and GH2. So there you go. If you have any place where you can compare cameras I would do that. If the screen doesn't make a big difference, and you don't want an electronic viewfinder then probably most that have been mentioned would work. To me the Sony NEX5n would be my choice then.

Consider this. The ultimate IQ is a DSLR. The most economical lenses available new and secondhand are DSLR because you aren't paying the premium for new and cutting edge technology. The best viewfinder experience is the optical VF in a DSLR

Other than an LX5 type of camera or a TZ style by any of the leading brands, anything you buy won't fit in your pocket, thus you have to carry them on a shoulder strap or in a shoulder bag of some sort.

Unless you are very old or infirm, it's as easy to carry a DSLR as it is a MFT, and much cheaper to do so.

MFT/ CSC are a marketing con job by snake oil salesmen! Other than the weight factor, Is a Sony Nex with an 18-200 or a Panasonic G3 with a 14-140 any easier to cart around than a DSLR and an 18-200?

You decide!

A DSLR has better IQ than a medium format camera? A DSLR has better IQ than an 8x10 view camera?

richardd, you seem to be responding to a different post than mine!!!
I said that the the best viewfinder experience was the optical one in a DSLR and you have somehow construed that to be an 8 x 10 view camera. I said v-i-e-w-F-I-N-D-E-R, not v-i-e-w-C-A-M-E-R-A

I also said that a DSLR has better IQ than a MFT (Micro four thirds format). Again you have misconstrued and taken it that an MFT is a medium format. MF could perhaps mean medium format, but where would the T come in?

It would help if you read the post properly before responding!!

No, you said that "The ultimate IQ is a DSLR" to which richarddd rightly commented that medium format or 8x10 cameras deliver even better IQ.

Apart from that I agree with you that a NEX with the 18-200 lens is getting very close to the size of a small DSLR. Then again you do have the option of putting a 16mm pancake on the NEX if you want to travel light.

Exactly. The first eight words of the post are "Consider this. The ultimate IQ is a DSLR."

Uh, in fact the image quality of the new Nion D800 dlsr is reported by reputed testers to be at least at the level of medium format cameras like the Leica S2. It seems that the huge R&D resources of Nikon (and Canon) are sufficient to close the gap between dslr's and medium format. And that at about 1/7 of the price ...

I think people are being a little silly here and the context of my comments is obvious if you take the time to read and understand the original post as I did. With respect the OP never considered medium format - they considered going from an LX5 to a DSLR then decided not to because of the size of a DSLR. My post, when referring to ultimate IQ was relevant to the camera formats the OP had considered. The OP is hardly likely to have considered medium format or an 8 x 10 camera as they aren't exactly popular for general use by amateur photographers (or professional ones either!)

With regard to the comment by Christian stating that the Nex could be fitted with a pancake to "travel light" Would it really be that much lighter, pocketable or more easily transported by a healthy adult than an entry level DSLR and a wide angle prime is in the real world? I doubt it.

First you complained a great length that I didn't read your post. Now you're complaining that I didn't read your mind.

Please read the OP then try to get it in to your head the context of my post in reply to it. I know that a medium format will produce higher quality but my response was related to the cameras referred to in the OP. You are basically spinning out rather pedantically something and nothing in a petulant and childish way. I've don't wish to be involved in a written spat and I doubt whether anyone else on the forum wants to read it either.

If you're getting the E-M5 I say go all the way and get the 12-50 kit lens too instead of the 14-42. 12-50 will give you more zoom range, is faster focusing, and weather sealed. No sense getting a weather sealed camera if your lens isn't weather sealed as well. Also the 12mm on micro 4/3rds will give you the same 24mm equiv as your LX5 at the wide angle. Of course being a kit lens the optics might not be as good as the LX5 and it's not as big an aperture but you have far superior high iso to make up for smaller aperture on the Oly.
