Just been out this evening and got some nice shots with the EX1. Here are three examples.

I used Auto ISO for the bottle shot as I wanted to try and freeze the sea spray, hence a bit of extra noise. I'll try the RAW image tomorrow to see if I can get a better result.

The jetty shot was a 12 second exposure using a variable ND filter. The car shot was taken with a -2 exposure compensation.

Nice pics.
The EX1 is decent in low light. I find it about half a stop better than my LX3.

Generally with the judicious use of noiseware and limiting prints to 8X10 I'm not afraid to use ISO 800 in poor lighting situations.

I'm not going to replace it untill something significantly better with a minimum of compromises and at the right price comes along. So far that hasn't happened , at least not with a comparable sized sensor in it.

Here's the bottle shot from the RAW file. Less noise but I've lost the 'vavavoom' of the JPG version.

Try not to get hung up on the high ISO noise.

If you do you will be joining the countless others in the high ISO rat race who end up spending most of their time in this hobby comparing output from every digital camera in the hopes of one day having what they think is the best. And when they feel they have it , they realize what they had to compromise .
One thing is certain, you aren't going to get it all in one camera.
Make the most of the EX1 and it should come close enough.

I like this shot the best. The beer went down - as the sun went down. That's about right.

All the best,

Photographers take pictures; the camera is only a tool.

I'm a profesisional photog and I have this camera in my purse as a walk around for at least 6 months now.

In the interim,I've bought and returned at least a dozen higher end compact cameras, but this Samsung is the only one that's been a keeper.

I just returned the Canon G1X...Slow slow camera, not impressed.

Love the fast lens on the Samsung and the weight of the body.
Only dislike, though not major would be that it had better video.

I'm not hung up on it Veducci, and I am won't be looking for a replacement for the EX1 for a long time yet. But surely we should be looking to get the best quality pictures from what ever camera that we use.

I only posted the second bottle picture as an indication of how a picture derived from a RAW file can differ to the JPG out of the camera.
