Dear friends,

I am interested in purchasing a 70-200 f/2.8 VR lens for my D700.
I've compared the differences between 70-200 VR and 70-200 VRII.
But I still wish to have a brand new 70-200 f/2.8 VR.

Please let me know, from where I can buy the same lens, with bill and warranty.

Thanks & Regards,

Biji Mathew

But you should harry to buy other lenses like 85/1.4 D until they get completely replaced by "G" overpriced crap

Hi Friend,

Thanks for the reply.

I am in need of that 70-200 f/2.8 VR lens.... I may think about buying the one you mentioned later.... Since thats not important for me. The one I badly need is the aforesaid Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 VR lens.

Regards,

Biji Mathew

Great lens, I switched to 70-200/2.8 VR from 80-200/2.8

Bought it for 1450$ in 2005. For 2200$ I wouldn't even consider it

thats more then a 'marginal' difference
This is 100% crop from 24 Mp camera, the difference would be invisible on prints, even a big ones. Also for tele photo lenses corners don't matter much, in most of cases there is nothing but bokeh in corners

Seems like supply vs demand issues - other popular and new lenses are backordered in the UK - should hopefully improve over time.

Dear friends,

Thank you for your replies.
Sorry to hear that, Nikon has stopped its production.

Suppose if I buy the last piece of 70-200 VR from Amazon, what happens, if it get any problems within its warranty period? Does Nikon has the parts for repairing it; since they stopped its production. ?

Thanks & Regards,

Biji Mathew

No Biji, Nikon will continue to support the lens. I think they normally do so for about 10 years.

When do you expect your monsoon to hit? :)

Hi, Tommiejeep,

Thanks for your reply.
I believe, we have talked through this before.
Can I have your email ID? Please write me to [email protected].

About my purchase; I am planning to buy it within a month or two.

I started working as a Still Photographer for malayalam movies and there, this 70-200 lens has an important role. So I decided to buy it.

Why I am sticking on the VR because, I need that extra reach, and of course I like its shape compare to the VR II. I have read about its vignetting problem, but few people mentioned that, they could not find much differences with VRII.

Regards,

Biji Mathew

They are still around. I bought a brand new VR1 in January for AUD $1100. It had been sitting on a shelf for 2 years.

Works fantastic on the D7000 and I expect it will on a D800. The vigneting prob I have seen on FF isnt really that bad.

The VR2 is awesome.

Found a couple VR1's new on Amazon. They are not cheap.

If you can't find the link, it's in the visual reference zoom lens list:

Scroll down to the 70-200 VR Amazon link

But there are many other differences. The "II" is much sharper at 200mm, f/2.8 which arguably is the most important setting on that lens. It has higher contrast, while the original version is prolific in flare and ghosting when shooting in backlight. The "II" also has more advanced and effective vibration reduction. The original version does have more consistently excellent bokeh while "II" tends to produce harsh bokeh at longer distances.
