Hi,

Has anyone ever bough from either Ask or Kamla on tottenham court court road, I am a bit worried they may sell me a grey import.

How do I tell I have bought a original product .

Any advise who be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Check the warranty, if it comes with a proper Canon warranty then you are OK. If not and you have to return it to a third party for warranty repairs it will more than likely be a grey import.

Check out Flash Camera, he has an eBay shop and a separate internet shop. He is based in Scotland and all his Canon gear comes with a warranty.

Google it and have a look, I could post a link but then the thread will be deleted as they don't like that.

Ian Kerr is the chap that runs it and I have got a number of items from him including a 500 f4 IS L and currently waiting for a 5D3.

Hope that helps.

Yes, I bought a Canon 60D and Canon 15-85 IS lens from Ask Direct store on Tottenham Court Rd at a very good price (they were trying to match an amazing deal Camera World had on this combo at the time - but were out of stock. Took a few calls to the man upstairs and they came within 20 quid of the deal price. Nobody else on the street could do this, so I must give them credit for allowing me to knock 300 quid off their original price).

Both camera and lens are good, with Canon Warranty in place.

I know others who have bought lenses from them without any trouble.

If you want a painless buying experience with excellent back up, no grey imports, or reconditioned stock then try:

WEX (Warehouse Express) - http://www.warehouseexpress.com
or
Park Cameras - http://www.parkcameras.com

Thanks for all the advice. I have looked at the digital rev website and they sell lenses and cameras at good prices, anyone have any experience with them?

I've bought quite a few lenses and bodies from them. They do not have UK warranties, but they will arrange the repair for you.

Worth bearing in mind that by the time you pay the VAT and import duty, prices are nudging the same prices as UK.

Some of the best prices i've found have been on Amazon - recently bought a 24-70L, 100-400L and 70-200LII from them - they were the cheapest I could find at the time for all three lenses.

As someone else recommended, Park are very highly rated. Just ordered a 5DIII from them and my old 5DII from them before that.

Be very wary of not paying UK tax and duty. You may well get away with it once but you can still get caught out on any subsequent passage through a UK port and UK Customs can and do frequently phone up the distributors for confirmation of importation of certain items. Is it worth it?

I bought from Flash Camera just last week - 7D & 70-200 F2.8L IS II. Couldnt recommend him more highly. Very quick to respond to all my emails and questions, and got my order to me very quickly. He also knocked off a bit from the order as I paid via bank transfer - worth asking for a quote.
