Cancelled D800 Preorder ..... Price Increased

price in Switzerland is £1850 tax included.....quick flight out of heathrow = £150 and voila...for £2000 you can get a shiny D800. And the satisfaction you have not given the business to Nikon UK. And that means a lot :)

The camera will be with European warranty and marked as a European camera, so no danger with the customs. Just need to change the plug from Swiss to UK

:)
--Why would they have the camera there when you can't get it in the UK
Diverroy
I am not saying it is in stock and that you can fly there tomorrow. It is not in stock in the UK neither. There is a waiting list everywhere.

It can be ordered over there and picked up when in stock for a great price, considering the price increase in the UK. An easyjet flight to Geneva can be obtained for less than £100

No need to go to the US like some people are saying to get a good price; and risk issues with the UK customs, and problems with warranty and have a camera marked with a US serial number.

Could wait for the rumoured FF cameras from Sony 1 @ 24mp and the other @36 mp probably packed with competitive features and price.

And don't forget Zeiss.
Sony is identical to Carl Zeiss lenses from the beginning of the world.

But all Sony's lenses are brilliant anyway and the build quality is always the Top.

I guess a lot of Nikon employees and camera retailers are dreading Monday morning with all the S* that's about to hit the fan!

I don't think they have a clue whats coming!

I see that a few Australian retailers have upped their prices also. It is a dangerous game to play. I suspect that many pre-order customers who don't have their pre-order price honored by the retailer - will cancel their order (which is their right) dump the retail market and go grey market and save a heaps load.

Just talked to the Nikon dealer where I had a deposit and I am told that the D800 has not been released yet here. I can't understand why, because some have already been released in many countries including some in Asia.

Just cancelled my D800 Preorder

I checked the UK top stores, I checked my order

The price was increased from £2399 to £2599

Some people on Nikon UK marketing board suddenly got a brilliant idea and increased the price

It's not about the £200, it's nothing, but I feel cheated
"However the company says it will honour the prices on existing pre-orders placed before March 24th."

So... now you basically cheated on yourself? I'm really sorry but you could have at least waited for a Nikon statement. It would come sooner or later and you could have decided right then to stay in or cancel your order.

Patience...

I'd feel really p* ed off now they've decided to honour the pre-order prices. You've got a long wait now if you want to re-order.

I don't really blame you for making a stand on the UK pricing exploitation - maybe we should have all done this to make them sit up and listen. Nikon haven't done themselves any favours here.

And, so now you see why I have just about never purchased any photography gear from local retailers, in the first place. That stuff about supporting their brick and mortar outlets, the local community and such, is quite a drag -- I'll simply continue to shop where I can beat them on prices and anything else I am interested in, and from the comfort / convenience of my home (which usually means snacking in bed, using my iPad, while monitoring world events via satellite television) and, until a particular company or brand can meet my satisfaction, I'll just keep my money, until a company and product comes along that does -- but, of course, I already have sufficient gear for my photography use and needs already, and so can afford to wait or be choosy, for that next best thing. ;)

Can't blame the OP. Without people like him cancelling orders and those who were vocal, Nikon may not have felt the pressure.

Since, any "re-order" can now contractually / legally be required at the new / higher costs dictated by Nikon and / or the retailer for the same / newer batches of D800/E Bodies. :( ;)

I guess all your emotions go the best of you. Nikon is honoring current prices for orders placed by March 24! Everyone always has a knee jerk reaction to things. Just remember, things always work out in the end!!!
