LX5 price increase @ B&H

Black is up to $399 and the white is at $430. I really regret selling mine and now back up to retail!
I am not surprised at the way price of LX5 is going up. Actually it is history repeating it self. LX prices had a similar curve during it's life cycle and continues to do so.

I doubt there will be any other deals on the LX5 from now onwards.

Why should white be more expensive?

Anis, with LX3 sales about nil, why do you think the LX5 will be in this state you say? Many think the LX3 is better and you can hardly give one away now.

It must be the twisted minds of the marketing folks.

I used to watch with great amusement when my FZ50 would alternate weekly with the silver being more than the black, then the next week it was reversed. I could never figure out the reasoning for that.

Not to gloat....... OK I'm gloating. Played the last 'low price' lottery at Amazon and got mine for $354 with free $75 gift card which paid for an extra battery, leather case & 16GB Class 10 SD card. I believe the price dropped as low as $334 a day or two later before they pulled it - so I 'lost' $20.

My guess is they will play that song again in a few weeks, maybe a couple more times in the next few months.

Regards,
Rick

Before the Amazon deal, at which point I bought the LX5, I noted that prices for new LX3s were actually higher than new LX5s. Currently, the "fulfilled by Amazon" price for new LX3s is ~$400 while new (black model) LX5s are priced at ~$360.

Sorry, I have not checked new prices. But used are going for peanuts, if you find one. I use LX3 and think it the best. If I had the money I would get the FZ150 to go with it.

Well I have been checking the prices of both the LX3 as well as LX5 since they were introduced. I was going to buy the LX3 for my niece/nephew when it was released and decided against it and instead got them the FX28/35 due to its versatility and longer zoom. Besides, it would serve them better as they were not into photography as such and were more interested in a good all around camera. I had been following this series that is why I said what I did.

Secondly the dumping and pricing of any product is always the game plan of the manufacturer and the the main distributor based on what they have in the pipeline in terms of new model and its projected release date. What you are seeing is a very carefully laid out plan and it is matching the game plan of the previous model. Based on my own analysis as to current market trend, pricing, my 32 years in the sales and marketing and above all my 12 years spent in my initial career with Japanese, I said what I did. I am not perfect and I am not 100% of the time correct but I have been mostly very close in my assessment vis a vis the final outcome.

Only time will tell!
