High Key in 5 mins Action

You have at least one error.

An add a Channel Mixer layer step uses a preset. The preset exists only on your computer, so others get an error because the preset does not exist on their computer.

Any chance you could go thru your procedure step by step? In real time?

I use Panit Shop Pro X4 which does not use/run actions. But it can run/record scripts in the Python Language. And it has a Channel Mixer.

If you gave a step by step it probably would work in PSP and then I could record a script.

stack of Layers

Channel Mixer > Black & White with Red Filter

B&W layer > opacity 60% > no adjustments

Curves > Screen mode > no Adjustments - see steps

Brightness/Contrast > contrast 35%

Layer > White Fill > opacity 15%

Gradient Map > Red to White > Color Mode > adjust Opacity 75%

Original image

Step1 Curves Layer - use Target tool - target Skin to brighten - target eye color to darken.

Step2 Adjust B&W Opacity

Step3 Adjust Contrast Slider

Step4 Adjust White Fill Layer - Opacity

for Darker Skin:
turn off B&W Layer
turn off White Fill Layer
Brightness/Contrast Layer use Minus 20-40%

use a darker Red Gradient Map - when you click on the Gradient Map a Map Pallet comes up. click on lower left tab and use color eb2e2e. for the right tab click and use White.

Hey Mike,

I just now saw this thread and gave your action a quick go. I'm not sure why it will not play back the settings for the Channel Mixer layer. I'll try to write a version of your action on my PC and see if it works. You are actually using a White to Red Gradient Map which looks better than a Red to white. That is another reason I was not getting your results earlier. I like how you used a Black and White adjustment layer to basically control the amount of red channel effect applied by the Channel Mixer layer. I had come to the same conclusion when I played with your method a few days ago. I was trying to figure out how to decrease the opacity of the channel mixer layer without turning the image pink. You will need to explain how that works to people who use the action. You can insert Stops before the layers and use the dialog box to explain what to do. I couldn't get anything after the Group was created to work...text layer and black fill layer, etc., so I don't know what they are.

What I did with the white fill layer is run the opacity up to 100% and used a large, Black, 100% soft brush on the mask to bring back the image leaving a white vignette. Then used the Density slider on the mask to add white to the entire image. That may complicate things too much for an action but you could suggest it as an option in a Stop and leave things as they are.

I also added a gray fill soft light layer to D&B. Maybe darken lips, D&B eyes, etc.

I'll play with it when I get time and email you. I think that when you get all bugs worked out and insert explanation stops, folks here will really like it.

Thank you Mike for the action. Appreciate the time you took to create it.

i see a mistake in the the Action. My Layer palette was not expanded so the 1st Channel Mixer should not be there.

i set the Reverse instead of using a created Gradient Map.
